For beginners, your favorite yarn

Hello everyone! I’ve been missing from Ribblr the past week or so as I’ve been working on patterns, doing some crochet therapy (cause we need it these days!) and being a mommy. I was thinking about this a lot and wanted your thoughts. As a beginner crocheter what was the yarn you used that was easiest to get started with? Bulky, jumbo, medium or something else? I personally started with medium 4 weight yarn.

When I was begginer I had taught myself with plush yarn (yeah not the best idea  ) and I didn’t really have any other yarn until I could kinda make plushie so DO not start with plush in my opinion!:expressionless_face:

Start with cotton as you can see the stitches and you don’t get the teeth grinding squeaky sound acrylic has.

Oh yes! That’s a good suggestion. I would even recommend going for a soft cotton yarn too. Some cotton yarns are really rough to work with and can make a beginner frustrated!

I totally agree!

One time I came across this really big 100% cotton yarn ball and tried crocheting with it but it was so stiff I couldn’t do a SC without getting hand cramp.

After that I had this really crazy idea pop up that maybe I could soak it in water to make it a bit more soft but it did not help!:expressionless_face:

Yes it is still in my yarn stash but in a tangle!:yarn:

Oh wow! A hand cramp is a no go! We need our hands for so many things. Maybe that yarn can be used for a macrame project or something. Thanks for sharing though!

I also started with medium weight acrylic yarn, it was js what I found the most of at cheaper prices. The stitches were pretty easy to see and work into, but I do think cotton yarn is best for beginners and (for me) it’s the most pleasant to work with.

Medium weight acrylic!!
Looking back, this is such a good yarn to start with because it’s like the middle ground in weight and it’s really easy to work with and see your stitches!

As a beginner I started with milk cotton yarn, but as I began to experiment with other yarns I found out that chunky chennile (the not sheddy kind) is amazing and it’s so easy to work with! :growing_heart: I would reccomend chunky chenille yarn because it’s easy to see your stitches, and it’s very soft! :growing_heart:

if your interested in making plushies then probably plush yarn but not too chunky (because the more chunky the less yards when it comes to acrylic yarn for plushies it’s not something i would do but for plushies velvet/plush yarn (in the picture at the very right )if you want something not TOO thicck i reccomend big twist posh or for simple things to make like scrunchies i use plush yarn/velvet for velvet scrunchies and medium weight 4 for normal scrunchies

OVERALL

beginer stage :milk cotton/medium 4 weight

starting plushies (intermideate) plush yarn
