Happy Friday, Ribblr family!
I was scrolling through design inspirations today and came across this gorgeous, chunky hobo bag. I absolute love making pouches and bags, and looking at this texture makes my hands itch to grab a giant hook and some t-shirt yarn right now! Before I jump into hunting for the perfect yarn to recreate this style, I wanted to ask your expert opinion: Are you a fan of chunky, textured handmade bags like this one? What is your favorite type of yarn to use when crocheting a sturdy bag?Let’s chat in the comments! ![]()

I usually love working with lighter yarns for wearables, but this chunky aesthetic is really stealing my heart today! Would you prefer this in a dark neutral like the picture, or a bright pop color? ![]()

Just letting you know that the picture looks like it’s AI generated
But you can maybe try to recreate it into real pattern if you want
Oh, good catch! You are totally right, AI is getting so good these days!
That’s exactly why I love the challenge—taking a beautiful digital idea and turning it into a real, stitch-by-stitch pattern. Challenge accepted! Thank you for the heads-up! ![]()

That’s definitely ai, creepy that it now knows what single crochet looks like.
Right?! It’s wild how AI can even capture a perfect single crochet texture now, it’s getting a little creepy!
But hey, at least it still can’t physically stitch it for us—that’s where our human hands win! ![]()

There is a designer for a bag like that that went viral during this summer. Many made it with a fading colorway and used a big hawaiiflower-like hairclip to close it up :) look at Blondie Knots YouTube channel if you want inspo, she made one :)
I was trying out some bags this year for the first time, however not such chunky ones. I prefer other types of bags, but this one looks really cool (although AI
). I was using mercerised cotton for the bags since it gave really good stability and didn’t stretch that much as other yarn types. Double strand was good for more bulk and even more stability. ![]()
Oh wow, thank you so much for this amazing tip, dana!
I didn’t know it went viral! Combining it with a big Hawaiian flower claw clip sounds absolutely stunning and so creative! ![]()
I am definitely heading over to the Blondie Knots YouTube channel right now to check out her version and get some serious inspo. You are a lifesaver, thanks for sharing this with me!
Bag makers rock!
It looks like AI to me. ![]()
Using double-stranded mercerized cotton for bag stability is such a smart technique!
Traditional chunky yarns can sometimes feel too heavy, so your method sounds like the perfect lightweight alternative that still holds its shape beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing your expert tip with us, Betsy! ![]()

Good eye! You are totally right, it’s definitely AI!
But I love the challenge of taking a cool digital image and figuring out how to recreate it with a real hook and yarn. Thanks for stopping by! ![]()
Do you have the pattern for this? I really want to start handbags. And this is the style I wanted to do
I’m a fan of people who don’t use AI. Unlike this bs right here. It looks stupid
Thank you so much! I don’t have the pattern ready just yet, but I am currently planning and researching it because I’m so in love with this style too!
I will definitely let you know as soon as it’s ready!
I completely understand your frustration with AI images!
This is just a design inspiration I found online that I really love. My goal is actually to figure out the stitches and turn this idea into a real, handmade pattern. Thanks for your honesty! ![]()
that looks great but i think it’s ai :(
Just a warning that often times ai things are hard to recreate (trust me i’ve tried) because they actually aren’t possible D:
For example. Where would you put the opening? It might be impossible to get the handle to look seamless with the bag like it shows on the picture !!
Yeah Its ai but I want to make something like that…
I guess i’ll have to tweak the design a lot to make it work in real Life. Thank you for warning
