I think the most important thing is proper lighting, I personally prefer natural lighting because I think it captures the colors more accurately, so I take my photos outside. I also like to take photos when the sun isn’t harsh, so like in the morning, cloudy days, overcast days, or if ai can get into a veey shaded area.

If you are using a phone, I would take them in portrait mode, as it helps bring focus to the item. If you don’t have portrait mode, you can also use photo editing apps to blur the background, I personally have used Photoroom and have liked it.

Pick a background that you like, I personally like to use very big and bushy plants as they have a “consistency” to them that doesn’t take away from the focus point (i.e., the crocheted item).

There’s alao lots of videos about product photography you can watch on youtube that can give you more ideas!

Hi there… Here are some tips to get high-quality photos for your pattern cover page that I personally use.

1.	Natural Lighting: Use indirect natural light, like near a window, to avoid harsh shadows and get a softer look. Try to avoid direct sunlight to prevent washed-out areas.
2.	Simple Background: A clean, neutral background keeps the focus on your crochet piece. Textured backgrounds like wood or fabric can add warmth without distracting.
3.	Focus on Detail: Make sure the texture and stitches are clear. Play with close-ups and varied angles to showcase the craftsmanship.
4.	Consistency: Keep your style consistent across your pattern covers to build a recognizable look for your brand. This could be similar backgrounds, lighting, or props.
5.	Edit Carefully: Slight adjustments in brightness, contrast, or sharpness can make a big difference. Avoid over-editing to keep the photo natural.
6.	Props and Styling: Add subtle props that enhance the theme of your crochet piece, like seasonal items or plants, but keep it minimal to avoid clutter.
7.	High-Resolution: Always shoot in high resolution so the details stand out, even when viewed up close or printed.

These steps should help you get clear, professional-looking photos that make your patterns stand out.
