granny square blanket help

so umm is it necessary to put a sc border on granny squares before you join them or can i like cheat and not and it turn out the same

this is what she looks like atm. I’m not done but what i do have done is pinned with stitch markers. once i finish all of the squares i do plan on distributing the different colors so they’re less grouped together
I still have to block them but that’s a problem for another day but if you have any tips for blocking i wont refuse lol

It is not necessary, depending on which method of joining you chose to put your granny squares together, some of the join methods are putting sc edging on the squares as part of the joining anyways.
