So, I’m thinking of making my mom a crocheted pin cushion.
I was thinking about the stuffing… I was wondering if I could/should put a ball of foil in it? Supposedly, foil will sharpen metal, not that it’s probably even necessary really…

Traditionally, they are stuffed with sawdust. Artificial fibers will dull the points and not offer enough firmness.
The little strawberry is filled with metal shavings, but steel wool is a suitable substitute
Ok. Perfect! Thank you
Steel wool is a great idea, I’ve used rice in the past but it’s fiddly & I doubt it has any sharpening qualities
Let me be clear, the cushion and the sharpener should be two seperate things or you will wear down your pins quickly
Great to know. Thank you for your insight!
