Help finding good not super hard to work with cotton/wool/bamboo yarns

Ok since I’m broke I haven’t worked with many yarn varieties, the only cotton I’ve used is a Lilly’s N Cream yarn I got cause someone was trashing it, I mostly used the sports weight size 3 I Love This Yarn! from Hobby Lobby, and Big Twist value size 4 yarn, then some size 7 chenille from the Joann’s Michael’s sale recently.

I have a project that I want to do as a surprise for my (chosen family) grandmother who had to move out of the state I live to a different one (let’s not Dox anyone here :joy:) and when she lived here she always enjoyed watching the birds eat from the bird feeder by her window (she’s home bound) but where they moved she can’t put out any bird feeder because the bears come to say hi so I thought I’d make her some flowers, and birds for her to keep inside I’m gonna mail both realistic birds like @ StellasYarnUniverse makes, and some cuddly plush cartoony ones, but she is similar to me and my mum and has a lot of allergies so I need to use fibers like cotton, bamboo, and wool, not polyester or acrylic so she can enjoy them and not get sick from them, but I don’t have the slightest idea where to get good quality but still affordable yarns of those fibers, like what brands split like crazy and are a pain so I can avoid them and what brands might be great, I was even debating on making a flower bouquet blanket too but I don’t k ow what yarn to use for that so it’s comfy and still the right fiber types and not super thin, unless I’m adding a thin yarn to something the size of or bigger the I Love This Yarn! Sports Weight size 3 that’s as small a yarn as I can handle, I am good with adding a thinner yarn to another’s yarn and working with more then one yarn mixed just the total size can’t be smaller then that yarn, that’s as small as my joints can handle any and all advice and tips are appreciated, my mum is helping me with buying the yarn for the project but it still needs to be affordable but not crummy quality, feel free to list pros and cons with your recommendations that I will consider if your up for it.

Please and thank you in advance.

I’ll take pattern recommendations too, but I think I already have most of the free flower and bird patterns already, and I have a tutorial for the blanket if I choose to do that too, like I said I’m on a budget for this project.

This doesn’t count as self-promo does it, I’m not advertising myself or any patterns I have created, if it does feel free to add the tag.

Good to know I’ll look up some creators video reviews on theirs

Oh and just to avoid anyone possibly getting autobot flagged for helping me, let’s not post any shop :link: just mention the brand and shop name and I can google them that way no one has to worry about :link: being sent getting auto flagged

Thought this would be helpful.

My opinion is that fine merino wool will not cause any problems. Coarse wool, most people not truly allergic. Symptoms of itchiness/ rash is due to coarseness. Also wool with heavy amounts of lanolin can be a true allergy.

Coarse cotton can be tiring on the hands, ( which is why I hate peaches/cream), splitty, and can cause a rash with wearables.

100% cotton is great for toys, but above applies for #4 weight, 100% cotton in 2-3 weight- lovely with nice drape.

I’ve tried hobby lobby cotton, hard on hands, splitty, AND color fades with repeated washings.

Again, acrylic is getting a bad name. The stuff they make now is a million times better than that scratchy stuff your grandma made. Typically, people are not reacting to the acrylic but the dyes. Going for acrylic designed for babies takes care of that factor. Or pre washing it with vinegar.

Now, I have been searching for a reasonably priced acrylic/cotton blend for at least 2 years. They are ALL overpriced. Especially anything from Yarnspirations website. They came out with this blend with only 9 colors, worsted weight, at $5.99 for 171 yards!!!

A more reasonable price with better quality is Jeans Art Yarn with a gazillion colors. May have to get from overseas, if so, recommend Woolwarehouse in England.

Circulo is another brand of high quality but is $12 for a small ball of yarn.

I found that the best cotton bamboo blend of good quality and reasonable cost is

I buy most of my yarn there. Free shipping >$75, quick shipping, great customer service, you can pay $2 to insure your package ( porch pirates are real). I have done business with them for over 10 years and not a single complaint. I’ve tried ALL the acrylics out there and premier Basix ( not value not dollar store) is the best acrylic with almost 100 colors. Premier also has acrylic/cotton blend, as well as 100% cotton that is of good quality for the price point with a wide range of colors.

Another very good company is Mary Maxim, same points as above.

Herrscheners can be an option. However, my package of $200 yarn was stolen and they did not honor my request to replace it. Their acrylic is nice just a bit fuzzy.

Now, if I had my old job and was able to work I would be buying all my yarn from Universal Yarn.

Avoid Michaels, for me, they are consistently over priced, lowstock, not even a deal with coupons
