Okay y’all, I have so many WIPs, and I need the… What’s the word!!!
I need to work on them, but I can’t find the modivation to do it
(This includes a giant goose, temp blanket, and gifts)
Do y’all have any tips on getting the modivation to continue crocheting?
(I can’t really do deadlines without proper motivation, and I’ve taken a long break already)
Can’t really help much sorry
I made Christmas gifts for my whole family(12 people) and ended up making 5 of them Christmas night.
I do usually listen to podcasts or books while I crochet and it helps
Ok the main thing I do (I completely understand not wanted to do it trust me…) is basically almost rush myself? Like try to complete a certain amount of rows quickly or I have only don’t this a few times but it works, take a time lapse of yourself because personally I always listen to an audiobook when I crochet so I want to get back to doing that because I can’t while the video is being recorded so that also gives me motivation, and you get kinda a cool video at the end
usually when i have a project that i’m trying to finish, i’ll just turn off all of my devices to avoid distraction and focus entirely on counting each stitch
as for motivation, especially for gifts, i like to imagine how excited people will be to receive a handmade gift that they’ve asked for, or how much love it’s going to receive from the person it was made for - that usually keeps me going
sorry if these aren’t much help, but i hope you can finish your WIPs soon!! i believe in you <3
I’m in your boat! Seriously- I have 6 large project bags and 20-ish smaller ones all within 40% of completion.
I call it the danger zone - getting my wip to 60% but not 85%, and stopping work.
If it’s below 60% I can usually frog it and move on. Above 85%, and I feel the finish line pulling me towards it.
But in between… oof.
I agree with making something small to get going, but I also know it’s not enough juice for my big WIPs.
At first, I have to reacquaint myself with the work - why did I start it? Where was I? Do I have everything I need? What hook size did I use? Etc.
If I can get going and it goes well, next:
I need an audiobook, headphones, great light, and plenty of space to re-orient myself to the work.
If I see I got stuck, I will try to get whatever I need… or I might frog… or set it aside again.
Sometimes, I just accept it for what it is and cut it up for stuffing, recycle it, give it to my dog…
It’s hard to figure it out. I am moving so it’s right in my face now, which is why I’m writing this novel it’s resonating!! You’re not alone in this challenge
Just think about how majestic and awesome your giant goose will be, sitting on your temp blanket relaxing with no more wips. Don’t think about the stressful part but the beauty of crochet
(Hopefully that helps, i dont actually know but I love the idea of a giant goose and you should finish it )
I won’t let myself do something, watch tv, read, eat a cookie, take a nap, whatever…until i get abc done. Set achievable goals. I do this with just about anything i procrastinate on.
Start small and work your way up.
