I wanted to see how everybody does there safety eyes cause I want mine to be secure but at the moment all I do is just pop them in. So any tips and tricks?
I use fabric glue when i close the safety eyes on, just so its extra secure to the strand. Sometimes i hot glue as well to give the backing bigger grip.
I melt the stalks once I’ve added the caps and then press them flat
Thank you
I’ve read that putting on the washers backwards helps make them more secure, I think this is because that way the washers curve with the project?
I’ve started going with a little bit of fabric glue on the back of the eyes, and then on the stalks (so the inside of the crochet stitches also gets glued and I put the washers on at this point to they’re glued to the stalk), and then once that’s dry I use a little bit of plastic glue inside of the washers (think of them like little cups).
I have thought of additionally melting and flattening the stalks, and then topping them with hot glue, but I think that might be overdoing it at this point.
It does slow down how fast the projects are made, and ups the cost a bit, but it does make the eyes much more secure.
Thank you
Another question to any one if I were to put jsut out the eyes in with no glue or anything and they were tight. If it would take down the worth or people would not want it?
Sometimes I melt them! And just in case you are having the same trouble as me- the safety eyes I got recently hurt to pop on, so I use scissors to help get them in every once in a while.
Hey I wanted to see what brand you use for your eyes. I use Joanns or hobby lobby but I don’t even know if that brand is good so I wanted to know
I’ve tried those brands, and they work well for me!
Mine were some random ones off of amazon, I think it was called rufpwz? But I don’t recommend those, they have flat disc backings that are very hard to put on.
Joann’s and Hobby Lobby should be fine.
I’ve been using the ones that come in bulk from Amazon, and have since learned those are not the best of quality. (And know from experience the glitter eyes are not as described).
I’ve read 6060 eyes are some of the best you can possibly get, but they are expensive (I think $4 for 10 pairs?)
I’m going to switch to 6060 when I run out of the ones I’m using. The extra expense is worth the quality.
Thank you everyone for the help
After i put the eyes in and secure them i melt the eye part with a lighter then flatten it with the lighter. Keeps them on more secure and if the back is close it wont stick out the other side.
I melt mine with a lighter also.
