Help Me Pick a New Hook!

Good evening, fellow Ribblrarians! I am coming to you for some advice about something different tonight - crochet hooks!!

Currently, I am using a really cheap set of hooks with really thin, hard plastic handles, and they cause my joints to hurt rather badly if I use them for any extended period of time. Thus, I would like to replace them with higher quality hooks!

I intend to ask for a replacement at Christmas time for just my 3.5mm, the hook I use the most, as I know nicer hooks are quite costly, and we don’t have too much money to spare right now.

The issue is, I don’t know what brand of hook to buy! I have tried researching online, but there is just too much information to go through! So that is where you all come in!

What hook would you recommend I get to replace the one I have now? Do you have a favorite brand?

Inline or tapered would be first question to ask. Which do you like?

Also price range? Furls metal streamline are supposed to be great (mix of the 2 kids too) but they’re 20 a hook. I love my clovers (tapered).

I prefer tapered, as I find that the yarn tends to snag on inline hooks.

I’m not too sure about price yet, if I am being honest. I am prepared to see higher prices, as I know nice hooks can be pretty expensive.

I want to try furls honestly. Even though they’re a mix of tapered and inline, I think the wide handle will be a nice change to a thin handle. I just can’t do it cause I use like 4 hooks regularly so that would be 80+ for 4 :upside_down_face:

I usually use loops and threads because it’s what’s in Michael’s. I haven’t used a wide variety of hooks, but these have worked great for me!

(Couldn’t find single listings, but I got mine individually in store)

I like yarniss interchangeable ones

They also have different styles of hooks (some even with counters) and honestly i bought one like this style Amazon.com on temu and it has some weight but i find it comfortable
This way you dont have so many hooks and pretty much every size you could ever need. The temu link: https://share.temu.com/yc55B9t0wpC (i know not everyone agrees with temu)
Edit: And even later down the road if you want to try a different handle style yarniss sell them separately and they work with the ones i bought off temu https://a.co/d/iLJDPZE

I just find larger bases more comfortable for me to hold even if it is hard plastic

I have these ones, and I find they work really well, but apparently Clover Amours are really nice!

hobby lobby has some good hooks, and theyre not too expensive! i think they have some ergonomic ones with a more rubbery handle, which are great!!

Despite of the hook brands u decide to buy, get some compression glovers girl. This is a life saver way more than new ergonomic hooks.

I have been seriously considering it! My family and I all believe I have some form of hybermobility (nothing quite as bad as EDS), and several of my joints subluxate regularly, including my wrists. And my knuckles ache often.

I hv hyper mobility!

That’s my thumb touching my wrist. Generally if you can do that, you hv hyperm mobility. Flat feet, clumsiness and always hitting your should when you walk into doorways are other symptoms

If you like tapered and want to level up, then I suggest a clover set.
