I’ve taught two classes of complete beginners and started with granny squares. Those squares can become bags or basket, done need a lot of them but gives them the confidence that they can make something in just 5 sessions.

Where do you teach
( You don’t have to answer that question)

I work at my local library full time while I go to school so I teach programs during the day and weekends.

I think a simple pattern is maybe a chick or a bunny but the ones that are literally just circles cuz those are eas peas. Try explaining each stitch so that they understand them instead of just teaching them the method

The best thing I’ve done was go to YouTube and pull up learning to crochet, and there is all kinds of different teaching methods and stitches. You just have to find the one that works for the person you’re teaching.

Ive taught a few people very quickly and very successfully. What I do is i have them hold to hook and try to figure it out withiut help first. Then i show them to make a slip knot and i have them put their hands on mine and I do an incredibly slow chain. I then have them copy me. I continue that process for each new stitch or turn until they can do it themselves. This process takes me 5-10 minutes.

I would start with a ch and then move on to teach them all the stitches.
Then maybe show them how to make some projects and after wards intro them to crocheting in the round (A.K.A ami) and show them how to make ami!

I hate teaching people how to do stuff. I tried to teach my friends and my sister and almost threw the yarn across the room . Try to teach slip knots first.

I FEEL UR PAIN  Ive taught 3 people how to crochet before (not a lot lol) but id say go slowly, let them take their time and adapt to each person slightly depending on how its going

I understand your pain :weary_face: I have tried to teach 9 year olds how to crochet and they couldn’t even chain no matter how much I tried to teach them :sob::sob::sob:

They couldn’t do the slip knot after 5 minutes of teaching :expressionless_face:
