So I made this cute kitty doll for a kid that I know, and I wrote the pattern for it. And since I already wanted to start posting my patterns I have designed, I thought this would be a good one to start. So far so good… right?
WRONG. Thing is, the kitty pattern along with half the dress is 100% original; but to make the shoulders and torso of the dress I followed Mahum’s tutorial on youtube on how to make a resizable sweater for any plushie (btw go check out her channel if u haven’t yet, her patterns are so cuteee <3).
So, my question is: can I write/post a pattern that has parts that I have not designed myself? If yes, how?
Second question is: as you can see, I made the dress w a different yarn than the kitty. So, how I’ll write a pattern for it???
Please help guys… and thank u in advance for everything ( ˊ̱˂˃ˋ̱ )︎
I think that wouldn’t work, let me explain why:
I am from Brazil, and the yarn we have here is not the yarn you guys have in the US. The yarn I used for the dress is a little more softer and a little smaller than similar ones here, so the piece ends up smaller. Also, I have no idea which brand it is since it was from my mom and she threw out the label a long time ago; and I fear that if it is made with a different yarn it won’t fit on the kitty :<
For the first thing, I’m sure it would be fine, probably just give credit to the original owner of that part of the pattern. And if not, maybe u could ask the person on comments for the the video or smt
No, you have to ask the designer for permission to use part of their pattern. If they say no and you use it anyway or you didn’t ask, they can (and most likely will) take your pattern down.
For the 1st part, id just credit the person who helped u with the sweater and torso and shoulders because its still ur pattern they just inspired you to incoperate some skills into the pattern
I totally agree with @LuckyKnotofGold , the ONLY exception I have EVER made is for one of my patterns (not released yet ) I watched a YouTube tutorial on how to make a little flat heart in a mr but that is ONLY because it was exactly how everyone makes tiny hearts in a mr (there are lots of tutorials that do it exactly the same way and it was just 10 stitches in a mr and ALL flat heart tutorials are exactly the same as it with the exception of an extra chain or something ! But in this case DEFINITELY ask the creator!!!
Oh sorry I didn’t realise, all I was saying, she used it for inspo, she might not have actually copied the pattern, but I agree it is still probs safer to just ask first (and give credit)
Tysm for everyone’s help!! <3333 I’ll try to contact the designer and ask for permission ^^
I did only use her method of making it, since her video was a tutorial, not a pattern, but I do agree with everyone that I really should credit her, since the idea was hers, and unlike Hartme’s example, I do believe it was pretty original.
As for the yarn difference, I’ll need to do some research
Once again, tysm for everyone’s help ︎
