Excuse the mess in the pic, dont know if you’re left or right handed but this is how i hold my hook just in case you haven’t tried holding it this way.
Took me a while to find a hold that was comfy for me too.

To me it looks like maybe your tension just needs some work, but that just comes with practice. With single crochet chains they always might look a little wobbly till you build up more of the project.

I did see you’re wanting to do amigurumi. Personal advice, just jump in. Some people learn better by just doing it VS learning each technique and then going in.
Thats how i learned tbh.

I suggest starting with something basic like a snow man, a pig, maybe a bee. Something that’s simple shapes and not too big so that you can see where you might need to improve but also over the corse of like 4 small projects you might be able to see the improvement even if small.

Hope any of this helps, if you have more questions, just ask!

You should size up your hook, a 5.5mm would be a lot easier. 3.5 is quite small and the yarn will probably split.

Thats what i was thinking maybe its the yarn & hook but yea

This is so helpful & tension is definitely something im really struggling with & im also struggling with how to hold the yarn & move the hook while trying to make a chain stictch, so i have to constantly wrap the yarn arounf my hand etc so idk if thats messing me up (hope that makes sense). I was thinking abour doing like a strawberry or like keychains something small but ive been told to learn how to do cgian stitch etc so thats what ive been trying to do as you can see.

What hook size you you recommend?

I used acrylic and a 3.5 but the pattern should say for chenille since that is what it is meant for.

I have 3.5mm & acrylic cotton (idk which one it is since it says 60% cotton & 40% acrylic :joy::weary:)

That means it is a blend, it should work just fine! It’ll be tiny though.

Blend?

A combination of different fibers. In this case, acrylic and cotton spun together. Do you know what thickness the yarn is (or the recommended hook size listed on the label)?
