I’m quite new to crochet. Would the increases in this pattern be 2 single crochets in the same stitch? Or 2 double crochets in the same stitch? (If that’s even possible)

I believe the increase will be 2 single crochets in the same stitch as this is how I work with all patterns

I think the increase in this case is two double crochets in the same stitch, as the rest of the stitches are double crochets. (And yes this is possible)
And you are doing dc and inc in the same round/row, if you would do sc it wouldnt be the same height.

It would be 2 double crochet in each stitch because that’s what the pattern is worked in

This is something that should be explained at the beginning of the pattern. I would anyway. Otherwise, I write them as dcinc. I would have wondered also. You could check with the pattern designer to see what was intended. I am doing something now with DC,SC repeated next to each other.

It depends what terms you are using. If it’s UK terms, sc inc, if US terms, dc inc. hope this helps!

I realised that when I did 2 single crochets in the same stitch it created this kind of wave instead of a straight edge, so that makes a lot of sense. I’ve never come across increases that weren’t single crochets.

I believe that (speaking from personal experience here) it would be a single crochet increase, unless otherwise noted as a “dc Inc”
In all honesty, reading crochet patterns a lot of the time just require context clues and common knowledge, if it doesn’t look right, then try, try again, until you succeed! :))
