Help with Humming Bird Beak 🐦

Hi everyone! :glowing_star::cat_face:

I’m trying to make a hummingbird pattern, but I feel like the beak looks a bit strange :confused:

They’re known for having very long beaks, so I’m not sure how to make it look better and I feel like if I make the beak shorter, it will stop looking like a hummingbird :(

I think it looks cute somehow

  • What would you suggest?
  • Or do you think it looks fine as it is?

~ I would aprecciate your honest feedback!

Thank you all! :pink_heart::pink_heart::pink_heart:

I like the beak and length, but (and this is just a suggestion) maybe place it a bit higher

Ya, placing it higher would possibly look better. Otherwise, it’s pretty good.

place it higher. i think also it looks too wide. it would def look better with a lower st count

Thinner yarn and smaller hook size for the beak in particular, and if you want more realistic look go for a triangle shape long beak instead of round, but round still looks adorable but I definitely think it would benefit from the beak being a smaller yarn size and sizing the hook down more then usual so it won’t hide the rest of the bird’s features, it is definitely still adorable either way and as is, those are just my personal preferences/oppinons

I agree with the hook size difference. You couldn’t go down to a 2.50mm to a 2.0mm. Possibly using your same stitch pattern for it. It will become smaller and tighter stitches and you might not have to stuff it either. Then place it higher on the face, more between the eyes.

you could make the beak go thinner and thinner as you go,

The whole thing looks super cute :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d say a bit higher placement as well. The length is great. Hmm wonder if you went down 1-2 hook sizes the beak looks a bit different then the birds body. A tip to make your stitches look tighter for pieces like the beak using the yarn under method rather then yarn over it may help with the beak as well.

Thank you guys for all the feedback, I’m glad the beaks length is alright. I agree is way too thick, that’s why it looks weird. And placing it a bit higher would make it look cuter and natural :). I’ll think about the triangular shape and making it thinner as it goes!
