Help with this pattern

I am currently working on the crochet drawstring bag by Karafty, and somehow am decreasing stitches when I join the rounds. I started out with about 60 spaces and ended up with 6 less about 8 rounds in. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong? I frogged it but want advice on how I can prevent it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Are you using a stitch marker? When you are joining your rounds, are you crocheting into the same stitch you are slip stitching into?

I put a stitch marker in the slip stitch from the last round and the final gap in each round. Since it is a mesh design, I slip stitch into the chain from the last round, chain 3, and double crochet into the next mesh space. So, I guess not?

Huh, that’s odd… is it a free pattern, so that I could look it up and take a look?

Okay, I looked over the pattern, and I am not sure where the decreasing could be occurring. By any chance, may I see a picture of one of your rows?

I am so sorry that I am no help so far

Hmmm… I am really not sure what is causing the decreases. Are you chaining one before slip stitching? And are you making sure to put your dc in the first mesh sapce? I am sure you are, but unfortunately, I am pretty stumped. I am so sorry.

Yeah, I chain one so it keeps the mesh design, and I do put it in the first space. Its fine, I don’t get it either. Maybe I’ll try reaching out to the designer.
