Help???!!

Ok so I don’t typically work with plush or fuzzy yarn or anything with amigurumi, and I’m having this problem where literally any time I try to close the circle no matter what it just breaks. I’m wondering if it’s normal or if I’m doing the magic circle wrong or something? I have no idea it’s really annoying :sob::sob:

When I make amigurumi, I normally use a method where I chain 2 and crochet into the first chain.

@ComfyPotato one thing that I do is that I tie a knot at the beginning of the yarn and that helps with keep the braking to a minimum

pull the short yarn tail VERY gently (tug it a bit) , or use the ch2 method!

I found not making the stitches in the magic circle tight. How to explain another way would be gently make the stitches in the circle. Then pull the tail slowly.

For fluffy yarn I eather make a chain 2 and make my single crochets in the second chain or I make a chain 4, slip stitch is the farthest chain from the hook and work my single crochets in the loop.

One other thing that I have noticed is that some brands of fluffy yarn are more durable than others so that may play into your experience.

yes!! bernat blanket and big twist have held up for me so far, but loops n threads immediately falls apart. i try to find an end and see how well the fluff holds on when buying a new brand/type of fluffy yarn

You can also try using a double magic ring, I’ve heard some people prefer that for plush or fuzzy yarn.

What I do is I chain 2 (instead of doing the MR) and work the MR stitches into the second chain from the hook. This creates a pretty closed loop, but you will have to use a stitch marker (or just count) to find the first stitch of the round because it’s easy to get confused with the chain stitches. I hope this is helpful!

So, I use acrylic yarn for the magic ring, and then go with the fluffy/ fuzzy yarn,

Thats very common, what I do is that before putting my stitches in the magic ring i close it almost fully, that way you barely need to pull on the end after putting in your stitches

I actually saw a yt short about this. Using a small amount of dk or worsted weight yarn as the magic circle really helps. Don’t really know how to help for closing at the end though, except to say just tug slowly, or attach another small amount of yarn to the end of the larger yarn to help pull it closed.

i usually use the chain 2 method where you chain 2 and then do the amt. of single crochets that are in circle into the first chain
