I think it really depends on what you’re interested in with crocheting. I got into them because of the stuffed animals. If you’re the same, there’s a free stress ball crochet pattern that’s perfect to start out. If you’re into clothing, there is a free pattern for fingerless gloves. If you’re into more decorative pieces, there’s a nice free pattern for a stationary holder. Again, I think it depends on what peaks your interest. Good luck!
