Hobbii yarn experience

I just got my first order from Hobbii - all size 6 Toucan yarn, and it’s basically a string with fluff around it. It sheds like woah, and when I try and pull a magic loop closed - the “yarn” (AKA fluff) comes off the string and then the string breaks. Oftentimes, when I try and frog a row/round, the same thing happens.

Wondering if all Hobbii yarn is low quality - or if it’s just Toucan.

On a related note…. I’m now accepting recs for places to buy yarn. I’m located on Turtle Island (colonized as the USA) - shops that ship from here (or don’t take 2 weeks to get the yarn), would esp. be welcome!

I usually get mine in-person at Michaels, but I heard that Yarnspirations is a good place to get yarn!

i think honey bunny is better than toucan as chenille if you buy from hobbii.

I even bought black friday chenille and I haven’t this kind of issues, maybe is only a problem of toucan

I did realize that I bought some baby snuggles too and the same thing happened. Good to know about Honey bunny being better - maybe I won’t write off Hobbii completely

I usually do as well - but find they have limited colors for size 6 yarn. Good to know about Yarnspirations - I used some of their patterns before and didn’t realize they also sell yarn!

Also for fluffy yarns a goodd magic ring hack is taking a scrap acrylic or whatever size 3-4 yarn and mak a circle with the ends overlapping each other to make a circle and then pull a loop of fluffy yarn through the scrap yarn as if it was attached and ch 1 then make your mr as normal into the scrap piece and at the end close the loop slowly supporting the fluffy yarn but pulling only on the scrap yarn and the ring will close and the fluffy yarn hides the scrap yarn

I’m a little confused what you mean. (And am more a visual learner anyway). Maybe there’s a video I can find of this hack. (If you have any handy - would also accept)!

Thanks for making me aware of this hack!

Basically, just make a loop with acrylic and pretend it’s your mr. I do it too, it’s IMPOSSIBLE for me to get a mr to close if it’s with plush yarn.

This is basically what I do, but I don’t usually crochet over the plush end, I just leave it sticking out the back, but it’l1 be on the inside anyway.
