Homemade gift ideas for a knitter?

So long story short I am stumped and need help brainstorming

What handmade gifts do you make for somebody who knits?

My found-grandmother got me a crochet kit of 40~ mini skeins as an impromptu post-grad gift (i graduated two years ago but still appreciate it haha) and i really want to make her something meaningful with it. She’s told me so much about her culture, her family, and growing up over the years, so I think I want to incorporate some elements from the things she’s told me in whatever I make. I’m leaning towards making her a practical gift as I think she would like and use it more than a plushie.

I have a dark grey cotton/wool blend I recycled that I think would look beautiful with some of these colours, but I just have no idea which direction to go in :sob: I’m thinking I could make her a lapghan for her walker, a full afghan, a pillow case/pillow for her couch, or a colourwork sweater/cardigan…? The problem is I just have no idea if she’d use them as she already has several blankets and sweaters from others, so I’m wondering if I should go for something smaller.

ideas would be greatly appreciated, I’m so lost :sob:

and have a cat ofc bc my boy took off with the bag it came in to play with it

Sorry, I’m stumped too. It’s a lovely idea though, I hope you manage to get an idea.

Also, remember that she will love whatever you make because you made it!

your cat is so cute! I love himmmmmm
that’s a lot of yarn… colorful too, I think your ideas of a pillow for her couch and a colorful sweater or cardigan are great. I think she’ll really appreciate whatever you make!

Would it be possible to make a bag to go on her walker? Made of granny squares that are personally significant or smth? Sorry just a bad idea.

Maybe a basket or a kleenex box cover?

Might i ask what her culture is?

OMG! I actually just got that set of yarn for Christmas.

Something you could do is what i’ve seen frequently referred to as a cocoon cardigan, essentially, it’s a rectangular blanket that has the corners of the short sides sewn together to make sleeves.

Here’s an example of one but I’ve seen them made of granny squares https://ribblr.com/pattern/easy-cocoon-shrug-crochet-pattern-forest-Crochet

If she knits, could you crochet a case for her needles? Double pointed needles (if she uses them) would be the easiest to make a case for, you could use a pattern for a crochet hook case or a pencil case as a starting point.

It’s just an idea, but you could make like something that goes on the side of the couch to hold stuff :person_shrugging:

A tapestry could work?
