Hooks

What are your favorite erganomic handled hooks? My 3mm hook has me in pain right now :sob: Any suggestions are appreciated :call_me_hand:

I really like clover hooks, their grip is nice.

I also have a few DIY tips for making handles for existing hooks if you’re interested?

Yes please! It would be ideal to just mod the ones I have

I’ve used a few things before so here’s the ideas and pros n cons.

  • using a tennis ball, cut a hole in both ends of tennis ball, insert hook.
i personally didnt like this feeling, but many love it

  • using a foam hair roller thingy, cut a hole and shove your hook through.
i personally didnt like the feeling of the roller foam

  • using a drawer liner, that thing that stops your stuff in drawers from sliding around. its soft, rubbery, and can make a soft handle when taped in place.
it comes off easily, it degrades easily, and the tape is tedious.

  • use vet wrap. this is easily bought in bulk online, the same stuff tattoo artists wrap their tattoo machines with, and vets use it a lot. like a roll of tape, you just wrap it and wrap it around your hook strategically to make a nice handle. it wont stick to anything except itself, not skin or fur, and comes in fun colours. it wont stick to your hook or leave residue.
this is my fave method of modifying hooks. HOWEVER, it starts to degrade after a while of use, the heat from your hand kinda makes it start to fall apart after a while.

  • polymer clay can be used to mold an ergonomic handle onto any hook and even fix broken ones, and you bake it to make it permanently into hard clay. make sure to glaze the hooks with appropriate glaze to ensure it stays nice.
i have never actually attempted this method!

This is a regular hook with no handle vs one of the same set that I put black vet wrap on to make an ergonomic handle for myself.

I mostly use cheaper ones with a rubberised grip that are shaped like the clover amour.
The really shaped ones are usually shaped exactly wrong and feel weird so I appreciate just the simple thicker, softer with flat-bit-for-thumb ones

if all else fails, you can always shove the hook through a tennis ball:sunglasses: I dont know what brand my is (so sorry) but I tend to like bright rubber grips (bright so i dont loose them XD) Happy crocheting!

I tried the polymer clay, I didn’t like my results. Better when they’re made by someone else who has already done the learning curve.
My favorite hooks are from Peach and Paige and I’ve tried them ALL,
A cheap idea is to experiment with anything called a pencil grip.

I love Clover Amour hooks and Tulip hooks. They have pointy tips and soft handles.

Like many on this thread, Clover Amour are my fave and help a lot with hand strain and fatigue. I’ve tried some other brands and they just didn’t feel right in my hand.
For me it’s also very important to do a lot of hand, arm, and shoulder stretches and exercises that also help prevent/treat carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive motion muscle strain. Helps keep me loose!
