Hot Take Time!

Crochet hot take: Buying pretty yarn is more exciting than actually finishing the project.

What’s your hot take??

My hot take would be that people should only buy as much yarn as they need for current projects and projects they know they will finish in the future. Big stashes aren’t great and buying yarn with no purpose is wasteful.

as a new crocheter i am guilty as hell of this

its just way more fun to touch the pretty yarn

I think it depends on the project, the yarn, and who or why your making it that really make that difference for me, because sometimes the yarn inspires the project, sometimes the anticipation of seeing the person with the gift i made them inspires the excitement, sometimes the project plan end goal is the best reward (or the anticipation of finishing the awaited plan), I’m a very it depends on the situation kinda person though, I make just make gifts for people I care about and the ones they care about and dragons for me, because I like knowing the care that went into what I give someone even though they may never understand the effort or thought put into making it for them, just as long as they enjoy it and are happy then I am satisfied too even if the project was way harder then I thought and I never plan to make the pattern again it all winds up worth it if they enjoy it, or if they choose to give it to someone who they know will enjoy it because I took forever to make it and their tastes/style totally changed that makes me happy too and in that case I’ll usually just make them something else when I can that fits their new/current vibe

Soo tru because I sometimes get yarn that I might not even use and the guilt always creeps in the back of mind when I don’t use the yarn :sob:

My hot take is it is more enjoyable to crochet in public rather than private

I have to agree with you there. I love a yarn that is machine washable and dryable. Almost everything I crochet is tops or sweaters. I’m not going to want to hand wash 7 items a week after working all week first.

My favourite atm is Red Heart Super Saver. Which I KNOW a lot of people really dislike. But I’m actually quite fond of it,

That’s pretty much what I do actually. I tend to only buy what I need for projects I plan to make soon. I know what project a yarn is for before I buy it.

Not that its wasteful or any value judgment. We all get to follow our hearts… But in my head, if I don’t know what its for, how do I know how much I need? And what if I don’t get enough for what I need it for and for some reason can’t get more…?

I do tend to make sweaters or tops most of the time I crochet, so small amounts of any yarn are usually not that useful to me.

It feels less stressful in my mind to find out how much I need and get the right amount before I start. Also easier for me to keep track of what I have and takes less room to store.

no way! i didn’t know people dislike Red Heart Super Saver cuz I love them! you get such a good deal for a large skein and when I was learning how to crochet 15 yrs ago, this was and is the brand I used. I still have a lot left in my stash but they are fantastic imo.

so true. I really need to stop buying too much pretty yarn. I have hoarding tendencies and when I see a 40% off coupon at Michaels, it gets the better of me lol

Hot take: magic circles/rings are not that hard, EXCEPT with plush/chenille yarn. Magic circles with acrylic are not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

I am using it now in Grape Fizz colour. Isn’t it a pretty colour for a sweater ? I think it’ll be so nice with a pair of jeans.

I also love the Turquoise and the Hot Red in the solid colours.

Amazon has some amazing prices on 3 skein pks.

There are lots of YouTubes though about people not liking it at all. I like machine washable) dryable. :slightly_smiling_face:

I get it. I don’t seem to be a hoarder by nature, but my husband definitely is, so I’ll have to say I understand..:slightly_smiling_face:

Oh that color is stunning for a sweater   I’m eager to see what the end result will look like. I didn’t know Amazon sells them too. I just go to my local Michaels because of their coupons lol I just spent $120 on Petite Purl chenille yarn last week for some amigurumi tester calls cuz I don’t have many chenille in my stash. I typically make wearables too so I like Red Heart a lot more. I gotta take pics of my crochet clothing to post under My Makes on here (im fairly new to this app so just been trying to get used to the layouts on here.

it’s the opposite for me. im the hoarder and my husband is not lol

If you post em. I’d love to see. My makes are all there If you’re curious. Even though the last one was an epic fail. LOL

The yarn for it was nice though, RH super saver in Hot Red.

The only thing about theakes section is that is shows ANY pattern you’ve added a note to, even before you start a project. So itvkondof looks like you made the photo originally shown with it. If that makes sense. LOL
