How do I make stitches tighter?

I’ve been seeing people using soft yarn and getting these super tight and neat stiches, and was wondering if anyone had any tips for making super tight stitches.

use a smaller hook or tighter tension

Definitely what @littlemisswonderful said, and use yarn under! That makes them have that nice X shape as well

Smaller hooks! Tighter tension also helps. For hook size, hold a hook up to the yarn. You want the width of the hook to be the width of the yarn!
