How much does your wool cost? šŸ¤”

Uk 100g acrylic average £2-2.25 gbp which is around $2.65-3 for stylecraft special DK which is one of the most common / readily available/average price decent quality acrylic in the uk.

There are a couple of stores that sell cheaper yarn for Ā£1 -1.50 per ball but is very limited colours and hit and miss with availability here…
Aldi & Lidl supermarkets have multi packs of yarn sometimes but it’s very seasonal and gone fast.

When i first started crocheting i bought all sorts whenever i saw it cheap etc but since taking my designing seriously i now only buy & use brands that are repeatable ie a proper yarn company that you can buy most places or online with a decent range of colours so that if i design something i know people in the uk can get those exact yarns. Also helps with calculations of gauge yardage etc if brands are the same across a project

So I do have a stash, but ive been selling a lot of it off and really only use stash for my own personal makes or making other people’s designs now .

I don’t know about plush yarn … unpopular opinion alert…I don’t really like it! …ok there ive said it!

For amigurumi i use dk acrylic for anything more ā€˜cuddly’ or for fun fashion /accessories

For ami that are more detailed or for display i like scheepjes catona (Ā£2.49 per 50g), sirdar happy cotton (1.09 fir 20g) or ricorumi.

For sturdier colorwork bags - ricorumi £1 per 25g

For range of colour and sheen scheepjes catona

For batik /blending mottled colours scheepjes stonewashed or river washed. (Ā£3.49 per 50g but i got a colourpack of 10g balls in every colour free with mag subscriptions so i mostly use that)

For blankets etc knitcraft (hobbycraft) cotton blend dk (Ā£3.50 per 100g)

Good topic… very interesting to see the comparison in other countries xxx also good for us as designers to know the kind of yarns you guys have available in your countries too.

I’m Australian too. I get the Flinders Cotton from Spotlight which is $4.75 full price but I usually get it for around $2.85 when it’s 40% off.

Same! But sometimes dollar tree doesn’t have the right color or they run out of yarn, so I go to Michaels. I have coupons because I have an account, and I buy the Michael’s brand cheap looos and threads or impeccable yarn, so I can spend as low as $1 a skein and $4.00 at most. I also check clearance because I bought 1 pound of yarn before for $1, and another one for $3. I don’t buy red heart because it sucks, so that saves me money.

so, in Micheals (canada) my acrylic ones are usually 12-15. i’ve never gotten cheaper OR more expensive yarn,

In the Uk, yarn costs £16 for 4 balls

In Germany a cheap acrylic costs 1-1,30€ for 50g. I don’t really know, what Chenille costs here, because it isn’t that common in my local stores. It’s definitely way more expensive.

I live in sweden and i usually get my yarn at dollar store or rusta they’re both low price stores kinda like walmart and target and there the plush yarn is about 5$ and the acrylic is about 1-2$ a skein

I’m in the US, I get my yarn from Joann, and the cheap acrylic yarn is $5 for 380 yards, but it goes on sale frequently. Idk much about plush yarn prices, just that it’s too expensive for me (I’m a teenager lol I don’t have that kind of money). If I get plush yarn, it’s tiny skeins of Premier just chenille from the dollar store, so $1.25. Sometimes I get yarn from Walmart, rarely though because it’s bad yarn, even for value yarn. It’s pretty scratchy and there isn’t much variety. It’s like $3-4.

So in the most popular craft store chenille yarn is around 7 USD.
in the cheaper store, rusta, a 50g skein of chenille (only 5 colours availible) is 2 USD, which for my country is VERY CHEAP.
most of my yarn is scrap yarn that I got for free tho!

NICEEEEEE, yeah I think I have an account?? I don’t go as much anymore because my school pays for yarn, so I do one big haul at the beginning of the year plus a few side orders for requested projects, and that’s it!

Your school pays for yarn!!?

How does your school pay for your yarn! You’re lucky! I guess technically my school pays because I’m homeschooled and my mom buys me yarn lol. I haven’t started selling anything yet, but I’m think on selling my stuff soon so my mom doesn’t have to spend so much on my yarn. I just can’t find markets nearby yet, and I’m not old enough for Etsy, and I want to put my shop in my name so there won’t be complications from putting it in my moms name and trying to change it. I just have to wait a year.

Where did you find plush yarn that cheaply?

My acrylic yarn I get (US) is typically from 2-5$ depending, and plush from 6 (when it’s on sale) to 15$ bucks for one skein. It’s a little high for plush yarn but that’s why I only buy when there on sale

Lucky, I have to wait four years:sob: I am gonna do it, even if it’s technically my parents’ account and all that fun stuff, I couldn’t wait lol

My mom offered me if I wanted to create an account already to do it in her name, but I just decided to wait a bit longer so I also can improve my skills and make some stock and decide more in what I will sell. I understand sometimes it is hard to wait so long, but I’m fine waiting because it won’t be THAT long. My birthday is in June, and I want to look up a few more things about before I open a shop and a bank account.

No way! I’m a June baby as well lol. My dad knows someone who does Etsy professionally, and she teaches classes on navigating and running your business, so I’m taking that class then setting up my own. I’ve been trying to open one since I was about 10, so I can’t wait any longer:joy:
