so, quick explanation: i was at the dental office the other day and i was crocheting while waiting for my mom’s appointment to finish. the receptionist and our family’s dentist are kinda chatty so they were asking if i could make them some things to give out to the other patients that come in during the holidays.
they gave me two options, either keychains or beanies (although this option im not too sure since the convo is already blurry in my head)
if i were to make keychains in bulk, how and how much should i sell them? decently sized or preferrably smaller? or would a motif such as granny squares or flat shapes be better to make rather than amigurumis? or both?
how much would you suggest each option (amigurumi and/or motif keychains & beanies) should cost in bulk? 10-20pc? 50pc? 100pc? ive only ever sold things to friends or family so this is definitely quite new to me. *stating in USD preferred, but if you’re unable to convert currency then idm making the conversions for myself :3
For the flat/amigurumi I would make either like a mix of both or maybe something like flowers because they are more flat but still an interesting shape @CrochetingSparkles14
I would make a tooth.
I think keychains would be great. Flat or stuffed either would be cute. Maybe some of each. You can buy the hardware in bulk so cheaper. Just be sure to include that into the price. I just double that cost myself. Not knowing your location it’s hard to tell you a price. Rural Nebraska and New York City don’t have the same price point. Bulk pricing, when I sold to a local store, had to be cheaper in order for them to sell at a profit. I made a spreadsheet that tells me how much yarn cost (replacement cost with no sale), how much in oz was used and how many I could make out of a skein. That kind of a thing. I would make a few and see how much you would be willing to sell them for, singly. And then adjust accordingly. Part of it is just getting the sale for the honor of the sale. Part is getting your name out there. Part is the fun of making them. Just be sure you can still enjoy the process. Maybe you could make some easy ones at one price, and some with more detail at a higher price and give them a choice of prices to see what they are willing to pay.
oh i didnt know the price differs by state! i’m from southern cali, pretty dense city area if that helps :] i only knew as much as taking the price of the yarn and multiplying it by the amount of hours when pricing individually, but i felt like if i did that in bulk then it would make the whole thing too costly. i’m not really looking to have a super large payout, just some cash to get me by
Yeah, people here won’t pay as much. I mostly make gifts now. Good luck with the sale. I would love to see the finished projects you end up with. I am planning the same, kind of. I spend time crocheting at a farmers market. Thought it would be fun to do some there. If they sell, great. If not, I will donate them to Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes.
thank you! theyre only asking for the holidays at the end of the year, so i have a lot of time to decide what i wanna do and how much to charge before then. im glad that your makes have somewhere else to go too!
