how to make shape better defined?

hello everyone! i was making a small sparkle with embroidery thread, but when i added a white (and then black) border, it lost its shape and became a blob. how would i keep the overall shape when adding additional rows? thank you and have a lovely day!

um I kinda forgot but usually if you’re changing a certain amount for the corner do those really tight I think

sorry, i don’t think i understand what you mean

You could try using dc for the points and ss for the point inbetween, or increasing in the points

Maybe you could try working in the BLO (or FLO) for the white round, if that makes sense?

put 3 sc in every corner :pink_heart:

wait, do you mean on the points or the dips when you say corners?

My eyesight isn’t the best so I want to double check what I’m seeing. So there’s the 1 stitch for the point, 3 stitches down into the dip, 3 stitches up the dip then another 1 stitch for the point right? And that would be 1 side

i believe so. i counted it as 4 sc up one side, 4 down the other. except the bottom which is 5 on both sides

I would embrace the blob

I would add another round where you do dc, and in the corners do like the granny square corners (3dc, ch2, 3dc) or just add like 5 dc’s in each corner :]

Id try BLO stitches and as @bulldogcrochetss mentioned for the corners but that in BLO as well :>

I agree with BLO. But, you could also do a surface stitch around the blob.

The corner of the square, or the tips of the stars <3

Did you do any increases in the corners? Try doing a hdc dc hdc for each corner maybe

Generally for something like this, for the white round, you would do larger stitches in the furthest (inside parts) of the star, and smaller stitches toward the points of the star, so that it becomes more squared. I would also do two stitches in the corners, with a chain or two in between. That gives the corners more space to lay flat, rather than pulling in on itself.

The outside colour is easier, because you can basically just sc across the entire side, then do another sc, ch, SC in each corner. I hope I made this a little more clear. If you want a food example, the heart drawstring baggies on vivcrochets website are a great pattern to learn how to do this!

here is what I figure would work. Smaller on the inside and increases on the outside. I am not entirely sure what stitches you have so that is an example. If they are all hdc the. You could do sc, slst sc in the blue or the same as I chicken scratched. In red it could be dc tr dc or dc ch2 DC all depends on the stitches you have originally and if you like the chain 2 method. But what I scratched out on the picture is something I do.
