how to prevent curling

this is the only pattern where my magic ring curls. the first row is ch 2, 15 dc, and the next row has no increases. how do i keep this from happening? this is the beginning of a granny square for a hat, when i crochet the pieces together will the curling go away?

Usually when it has no increases after it will start to curl, but you can try to stretch it out? I usually just start over

i’ve started over like 5 times, it keeps happening! the next row is 16 dc clusters, with the slip stitch counting as an extra stitch. in the pattern tutorial and pictures there is no curling. last time i tried this pattern i think once there was no curling but i have no clue what i did

Is your hook size too small?

maybe, the pattern calls for 4.25 and i’m using a 4 mm

That might be it?

should i try with a 4.5 or a 5 mm?

Maybe 5, since it’s curling that much

i’ll try that and be back :)

That can usually be fixed by blocking- you can look up a more in depth tutorial on YT, but it’s just pinning it in place while it’s wet and letting it dry that way.

it didn’t work :(

It might be because you are starting with too many double crochets at the start

But then again it could just even out when you do the granny square border around it? :man_shrugging:

it can happen due to tension difference in the rows such as having it be too tight the first row then too loose the next, you can try using a bigger hook for the first row then size down for the next row. hopefully this helps and you can figure it out. (:
