I’ve had people say they want to pay me for crochet projects, and I’ve also wanted to start selling them. My problem is that I don’t know how to price things, any suggestions?
yeah… it can be hard at first to feel like you should charge what you are worth because you aren’t confident yet. Don’t feel that way. No mechanic has ever apologized for adding on that “labor” time whether it took that long or not.
I added to the title to make it more clear and added the feedback suggestion for those that want to help
I calculate the cost of materials to make the piece, fees (platforms off ribblr charge quite a bit), and shipping materials (this is a small, flat portion per piece).
I recommend putting everything you own for your business into a spreadsheet and then inputting the cost of those materials.
I pay myself at around $10 an hour…sorta. I’ve learned what I consider to be “fair”, in my mind at least, while also not losing a profit or trying to overcharge customers. I doubt my prices at times but someone will always, eventually, buy an item I made at a price I worried was “too much”.
A small plush will be around $15-25, medium is $30-40 and larger can be $50-70 depending on how large.
Keychains will range from $7-12. Fidget toys will be $5-9. Stuff is cheaper without seller fees…
I also scope out common market prices and I will sometimes match those depending on how saturated that market is. If that price is just people constantly undercutting each other then I won’t even bother trying to make money off of it.
