Huge yarn windfall of huge yarn! Ideas?

I was just surprise gifted about 40 skeins of jumbo yarn.
I want to make amigurumis out of it.

What’s your favorite ami patterns for Jumbo yarn?

Really hard to show the scale of it… It covers my entire kitchen table stacked up to 3 skeins high!

(In case you are wondering, a friend of mine had a friend who bought it all to support her daughter who made a jumbo blanket, but the daughter lost interest, so the lot was given to my friend, who knew I crochet with chunky yarn… I’m excited!)

Wow that jumbo log is really jumbo!

I think that blue would be perfect for an elephant!

out of curiosity, are you going to use a hook, or try to crochet with your fingers?? also, you should try finger/hand/arm knitting XD

I don’t know. Maybe I’ll use my fingers, but it is a valid excuse to get huge hooks … And I do like hooks. ;)

Just saying, at least for me, the huge hooks that go with that yarn take a while to get used to and sometimes it’s just easier with your fingers. I have tried multiple things with it, and it’s definitely difficult. But, it’s a fun new thing to try!

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve only made one thing with jumbo yarn, and it was a ghost using my finger puppet ghost pattern (that I’ll get up on Ribblr eventually). In size 5 yarn it comes out to be under 2 inches tall: in Jumbo it came out to be about 10 inches tall.
I used a combination of my largest hook and my fingers.

I tried to put 30 mm eyes on it, but broke one as the yarn was too big. I only had two eyes of that size, so I made it a pirate patch. It haunts my husband’s classroom right now, attached to a high corner of the room, so I don’t have a pic to show.

Do you have a favorite frog pattern? My favorite is this pop-it frog, but I’m not sure it would “pop” with jumbo.

Any suggestions on a specific elephant that you think might work?

temperature blanket.

I laughed out loud. I think just a head of one of her patterns would be work out to be the size of an entire human in Jumbo yarn.

If someone doesn’t know what a Letodoll is, check out her shop and you’ll see why I laughed.

That’s been sitting in my patterns for a while as something I’d like to try. Good call.

I’ll have to look up some good tutorials. I’m excited to explore.

Now if I only could figure out where to stash it all in the mean time.
