😵 I can't sew amigurumi symmetrically, ever

As the title says. I have used everything: pins, needles, knitting needles even, stitch markers, yarn, everything to line up things like limbs and ears straight, and they look fine at first! But the second i finish sewing theres a limb over here and a limb over there.

Do you guys struggle with the same thing?? Any (more) tips? :broken_heart:

So idk if you do this or not, but I sew with the pins in. I don’t take them out until the thing I’m sewing down is more than secure. I also make sure the item is pinned down so it isn’t shifting around as I sew on the sister piece. I’m talking like… I use an almost prodigal amount of pins lol

Don’t just check the front and sides when you’re pinning. Check literally every single angle. Top, Bottom, 45 degree, side… all of them to make sure nothing is out of place.

Sew slowly. Don’t just whip the stitches, but check every few stitches to make sure everything is still in place.

And lastly, and this one applies to all art.

Rest. Your. Eyes

sight, hearing, touch, and Smell are all subject to what’s called ā€œsensory adaptationā€, which is when they become less responsive to constant and unchanging stimuli. Like when you use the same candle in your house for too long you stop smelling it? Same thing with your eyes. This is because your brain prioritizes new information and just kinda tunes out constant stimuli. The longer you stare, the more your brain just sort of accepts something as it is allowing you to become blind to errors you would have otherwise seen.

What I do is I will pin something, walk away from it to go do something else (or even go to bed) and then check it out in the morning to make sure I pinned it right. Sometimes if I’m still not sure I’ll ask my husband. Or take a photo and send it to my bestie to see what she thinks.

Lol if it makes you feel any better I didn’t learn any of that in school either. Guess it goes to show how important it is to stay curious and continue learning throughout your life.

That being said… I was always a science kid lol. As an adult my favorite kind of science is food science XD

Glad you’re learning that sooner than I did XD. I would work on an art piece all day, go to bed, wake up to start on it again and be like ā€œokay… I know there were some issues but it didn’t look THAT bad yesterday.ā€ lol.
