I hate magic rings. Does anyone know how to do it with plush yarn, specifically loops and threads, thats both the chain method and the magic Ring way without using another thinner yarn cause no matter what yarn it is it wont pull at all
When I do it with a thinner yarn, I don’t actually make the magic ring, I make a cross with the ends so the thinner yarn is like an x and then a loop, and I make a slip knot on the cross section and then crochet into that circle from there, pulling the two ends of the thinner yarn if I need to. That’s probably very confusing but if you need I can take some pictures later!
Here ya go
I just do a slip knot, ch1, and then crochet into the chain like it’s a MR. Works really well for every type of yarn I’ve gotten my hands on so far.
I use loops and threads skinny chenille yarn and I always use the chain two method
I make the stitches loose and tighten up the ring a little bit after every couple stitches.
I think this works best on plush tyarn cuz the magic ring either breaks upon tightening or fuzzies come off.
Hey @AkuCrochets
Welcome to Ribblr by the way!
When using any yarn thicker than worsted yarn I always chain 2 then in the first stitch i start however many is supposed to be in the magic ring.
Yeah same this is what I do for plush (and sometimes other ones)
I use a slip knot then wrap around my finger. I just start making one sc into the circle then I pull to tighten a bit and continue with the amount of stitches and as I go I pull to tighten.
That first stitch is important to make a bit loose otherwise my chenille yarn sheds.
Hope that helps! I use this method for all my yarns now it’s just easier for me.
I chain 2
This is what I do as well. If it doesn’t pull after 2 stitches, I redo it and make it a bit looser. Works every time. And I use blanket and chenille all the time
I just chain two and put sc into them with plush or thick yarn because I try to tighten the ring up and it always breaks the yarn.
I do a magic ring, work 3 stitches (not too tightly), then gently tighten the ring so that it is just large enough for my hook to go into, then work the remaining stitches. I don’t usually have to tighten the magic ring afterwards, but will give a gentle pull on the yarn to see if it will close any more. This works a treat for me. ![]()

i’m sorry but i couldnt agree with you less. times i understand:
yarn that splits
hook size under 3mm
making more than 8 stitches into them
That’s my problem the pattern I’m making I chose to fight myself and did 10 sc into a magic Ring :,[
Id appreciate some pictures! I think I figured it out but I wanna see how you do it and if its easier. I can’t picture this :]
