I just wanna know what I need 😭

Anyone else wish more patterns included the yarn weight and amounts needed before purchasing the pattern? I wanna know if I’ve got what I need to start now because I’m impatient :skull:

Go on Ravelry for that lol

Really? Those ravelry patterns make sure to include that? Good to know.

I put the info in my patterns… But only for the original weight yarn I used to make the pattern. Thats the hard thing. What if you are using a different weight yarn? Or even a different brand?

I love ravelry for that reason! Just not everything is on there lol

Yeah, same! I play yarn chicken even when I have WAY WAY WAY more than enough to finish bc I’m just overthinking like that.

I lot of patterns don’t even say what yarn they used. Just the color.

You can Google “how much yarn do I need” there are several yarn calculators for projects out there.

Many patterns so say if it is #4 worsted or #6 chunky etc and lost how much they used. Always look for that information on the first page of your pattern.

If you have a specific pattern and can’t find it you can reach out the the maker and ask, or I could try and help you

Sounds like a good idea but might be a bit harder for the pattern designers just bc it gets rlly hard to find out how much yardage u used for a project.
It is a gr8 idea tho, its just harder on the designers like i said, so thats prob why there isnt that many patterns with it.

I find the easiest way to measure how much I use is to weigh my skeins before my project and then again after. Then weighing the project and subtracting the yarn to get how much polyfill I used. (Eyes are about 1 or 2 grams only, so I take that into account.) I usually only use gram measurement, as I prefer not to work with decimals.

Only problems are

  • do I remember to weigh things before starting? Maybe.
  • I can’t start another project with the same colors before finishing … Maybe less q problem and more an encouragement to work on my WIPs
  • Can I find the place where I wrote down the weights when I finally finish? Maybe.
