I need help making a magic ring with plush yarn

I’m literally on the verge of tears right now. I’m trying to make a magic ring so i can starter a mushroom plushie but every single tutorial I try doesn’t work. It NEVER fastens off, or it just snaps if it’s close. There is always a massive hole which is an issue for Amigurumi. Can someone link an actually good tutorial that works or give me an explanation for how to make this work? I’ve only made one ring successfully with the method im used to using.

UPDATE!
I used acrylic worsted weight yarn and then crochet in it and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the help!

I tried those, they are too long for me and don’t work. I’m just looking for a quick tutorial, since every method I’ve used just flat out fails every time. Thanks, though.

Ok then, I would suggest the chain 2 method

Hiya lovely! If you make the ring with acrylic yarn and crochet into the magic ring with plush yarn it won’t snap! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hiii ive had the same problem!!! I have stopped using the mr entirely because it’s just too much effort. For patterns that call for MR 6 sc, I chain 5, slip st into the second ch from the hook, then do 6 sc in that ring that we made from the chs, similar to a granny square. I always leave a trail of extra yarn at the beginning so at the end i can weave it around the hole we have created to sew it closed! Let me know if you need any more help/explanation!

I watched a video on yt, she used a cotton yarn WITH the plush yarn, put both together and create a magic ring, crochet whatever you want in the ring(but just with the plush yarn! The cotton yarn is just for forming the ring) after the first row, when you want to close the ring, take the ends(plush and cotton together) and pull. The cotton will help the ring to fasten easily.
Then pull out the cotton yarn and continue with just the plush yarn.

Have you tried a double magic ring? I’ve heard some people prefer it for plush yarn:
