Hey everyone! This is my first time posting on here. I am needing suggestions/help. I am making a shoulder/cross body bag and the top part is going to be a split block color. Half of the top will be a yellow and the other half will be a burnt orange/coral. I am struggling with figuring out how to get the colors to be blocked out without the other color poking through. The color blocking on the hat is my goal. I tried adding a picture of the current status but it won’t let me. I need suggestions or recommendations on how to get the seamless look. There is no ribbing and it’s just hdc stitches. It is a round bag. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are just working in rows (back and forth) it shouldn’t be a problem.
When you get to the section where you want to change colour - work the yarn over (of the last stitch of Col A) in Col B, and continue in colour B. Remember here you’ll need to twist the two working colour yarns around each other to keep the bag all one piece.
If you’re working in the round, you do the same thing, however you will need to crochet over the unused yarn until you get back to the beginning of that colour.

I don’t have a sketch of it. But I did end up just doing block rows of the colors and I’m gonna just see them together.

The hat is not crocheted from top to bottom, it’s from side to side. Maybe that creates the difference?
