The eyes are giving it away
Since you only put the answer and reasons for the cow, it makes it sound like the dino is real crochet, but it’s AI, too. It looks realistic at a glance, but when you zoom in to look at where the head meets the snout, or the leg bends, there are weird angles and row meetings that don’t look right. The stitches don’t have real definition either, I think of AI crochet stitches as corn cobs.
Okay I had to draw what this hat might look like. Option one is following the directions including all the finishing. Option two is following all the directions except for the part that says to sew the top of the ha
t shut, because then it can at least actually function as a hat if you put it on upside down? I’m not sure that’s better.
I realize that. I explained only the cow as who i was replying to was talking about the cow. AT the time, nobody talked about the dinosaur.
Oh sorry didn’t mean to sound critical, this is a great educational post! Just wanted to make sure it didn’t seem to imply that the dino was real crochet.
I hadn’t heard about the scams. There have been some AI generated designs that are VERY convincing. Great tips!
Oh and look at the nostril its just a hole
yep! in the second one, if you look at the tail. Why is there a horn there?
in the first one, the dino looks okay, but the bird in the right corner does not look right.
Here’s another example of some sus AI stuff.
Another thing that is a big tip-off for “is it AI?” is whether or not you’re questioning whether or not it’s AI. We’re crafters who see this stuff all day… we’re pretty good at identifying the uncanny valley stuff
I also look at the way the stitches move, like with the Dino the stitches ever move in the same way especially on the head the stitches go different ways
I have come across people selling patterns on Etsy with Ai thumbnails. They get bad reviews because the pics in the patterns don’t look like the thumbnail. Some people can’t tell the difference.
Yeah it takes a while to build up a knowledge base of how something should look in crochet, and even after crocheting for decades I still have to look really closely at some of these AI images. At least we can always share the pictures here when in doubt and as OP @PearlCrochets suggested reverse image search is very helpful, and easier than ever with smartphones.
Same, I do have to look carefully to see that it is AI sometimes as well.
