Introducing "Tipping": A New Way to Celebrate Creativity

We’re thrilled to announce a new feature designed to celebrate and sustain the incredible talent within the Ribblr community: Tipping :yellow_heart:

This feature gives you an easy way to show your appreciation for the designers who bring joy, inspiration, and creativity into your life. By using the “Leave a Tip” button, you can directly support your favorite designers, helping them continue crafting the patterns you love and strengthening the wider crafting community.

Tipping

Why Tipping Matters

The crafting community thrives because of its creativity and generosity. Designers pour their heart, time, and skill into each pattern, and we want to ensure their hard work is recognized and rewarded. The “Leave a Tip” feature lets you say “thank you” in a meaningful way, helping to build a stronger, more sustainable crafting economy.

How It Works

  • No Setup Required for Designers: If your Stripe account is connected, you’re all set to receive tips - no additional action needed!
  • Where to Leave a Tip: A “Leave a Tip” button is now live:
    • At the end of every pattern.
    • On each designer’s shop page.
  • Flexible and Personal: Choose an amount that feels right for you and include a personal message to make your tip extra special. Currently, you choose between tipping $1.99, $2.99 or $9.99.

What Happens Next?

  • Notifications:
    • Designers receive an email alert when they’ve been tipped.
    • Crafters get a confirmation email after leaving a tip.
  • Tracking Tips: Designers can view all tips and income details through the Shop Manager for easy organization.

Supporting the Feature

A 5% processing fee applies to all tips to cover operational costs and ensure the system runs smoothly. Updated Terms & Conditions reflecting this change are now live.

Start Supporting Today

Ready to show your favorite designers some love? Look for the “Leave a Tip” button on their shop page or at the end of their patterns. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference. Let’s keep the creativity flowing and the community thriving, together.

Thank you for helping us make Ribblr a place where creativity is celebrated, and designers are empowered to keep doing what they love :dizzy:

Question. The 5% processing fee, does the customer tipping pay this?

Edited

Does the designer get the full amount you tipped them, or is it less the processing fee?

Hi! The 5% processing fee is deducted from the amount given

So the designer gets the tip less the 5%
When you tip do you choose a specific amount or a specific % of the purchase price or does it let you choose between options?

Currently, you have the option of tipping $1.99, $2.99 or $9.99

Will you be adding an option for a custom tip amount? Like what if I can only afford $1 at a time? Or what if we want to send people literally any other amount? I like the idea of tips, but I feel like it needs more flexibility than three tip options.

We will consider this in the future

make sure people aren’t using it in an abusive way! i know in real life many times people are forced to tip— i would never want people to go through that when buying a pattern.
it is generally a safe space here and i hope people will be using it for the right purpose

i love this idea though and am excited to see how this will positively impact creators!!

Oh don’t have my bank account set up! Not sure if I will though I might be lazy

I would think that a tip is the customers choice, whether they want to add it or not. Not sure it can be abused

Unlike some pricey restaurants near where we live
