Hi There,
One of my most “asked to clarify” stitches in my patterns has to be the Invisible Decrease. Because the abbreviation is INV or inv, as I am prone to write, a lot of my Pattern Testers either totally miss it, confuse it for INC/inc or don’t really understand what it is.
I have found the abbreviations that are auto generated to be very lacking in this regard.
I think it needs to be highlighted with a video just like BLO & FLO are.
I want my patterns to be beginner friendly but also I want people to come away possibly learning a new stitch, trick or style and being able to use it in the future, just like I have.
Currently I have to add in a list of technical abbreviations in my patterns like this one for
Invisible Decrease: “Inv = invisible decrease - work through the front loop only of two stitches to reduce like a decrease, this style creates less visible bumps in your project.”
Thanks

good idea!
when I started off, I used invisible decreases, and I use it even when the pattern just says dec

Same, it’s always my go-to!! Dec = INV haha

I’ve always wondered what a normal decrease is…

It’s a good idea to make a little abbreviation table regardless honestly (I need to take my own advice here
). But I agree! Having this as a Ribblr included tutorial would be fantastic.

I’ve never used a “normal” one. I think it’s going through both of the loops in the two stitches you’re decreasing, instead of the FLO? It makes it more puckered.

My list of technical abbreviations seems to grow with each new pattern…

It really does, almost like a bump sticking out

Tell me about it
I have to add them for mosaic crochet, which is why I finally just made my guide to put it all in one place and then reference to it.

it surprises me that a lot of people don’t know what an inv dec is, i use it by default!

An invisible Dec is where you take two stitches and take the front loop of the first stitch and the back loop of the second stitch and then single crochet like it was one stitch and boom that is an invisible Dec it’s supposed to make decreases look like you basically used one stitch it’s kinda sneaky anyway I hope I helped if you have any more questions please feel free to ask
Xoxo cutie

Haa, but then my brain would slow down for 2 seconds..
also then it won’t show up in the abbreviations at all, I used to call it something else entirely.

This would be helpful! I mean I don’t write in my patterns that I use invisible dec but I do
