Is there stiffener for yarn?

I was wondering if there was some sort of glue or something to help stiffen up a work. I saw a video (that I can no longer find) of a crochet treasure box that they applied something to to stiffen it up and put a doll or coins in it I can’t remember. I’m not that much into other crafting to I have no clue what it was. It looked like glue, but it dried clear.
Was wondering if anyone knew anything about that in here? I was thinking of making gift boxes with little amigurumi in them, but I wanted to stiffen up the boxes a bit.
Thanks everyone!

I know, I was fascinated! But it was late and I thought I’ll find it in the morning…that was a few weeks ago. :slightly_frowning_face:

it’s called “fabric stiffener and draping liquid” and many brands make it, just use that term

While I am new to crochet, I do sew. You can use fabric starch. Also I have seen crochet basket which might substitute as a box. Choose a yarn that is a little stiffer in nature . You could also use a wire frame. Hope this was helpful

Aileens, or modpodge fabric stiffener should be easily found at any craft store
starch will not be strong enough to hold yarn into a box and can flake when used this way.

Mod podge would work super well I think. I have a huge jar of the stuff, it’s magical.

I’ve doubled panels before and put cardboard between them but it’s definitely more work.

the brand makes a lot of different products and has been around a very long time for a reason

There are also more traditional ways of applying starch so it shouldn’t flake off.
