Hi! Iām fairly new to Ribblr. Many of my makes so far have been tests and Iāve received karma points for two of them.
Iām curious - are karma points normally awarded after successfully completing each test? I saw in the help topics that they can be sent for that but I didnāt know if that was the norm or not because I havenāt received them for a bunch of my projects.
When selecting testers, is that something pattern makers pay attention to?
Also - does the person gifting the karma have to pay to do so?
Thanks!

Yes, karma points are awarded when you complete a tester. When you apply for a tester, a pattern maker will see all the crochet projects you have tested and how many karma points you have (I think). And no, the person giving the karma point does not have to pay to do so.

Karma is given to testers who complete the project within the testing period of the pattern, meaning if the pattern is gifted after the release, karma wonāt be rewarded (I think)
As a pattern maker who post tester calls, this is the order I look at things:
- Your karma and ātests completedā percentage as this shows how many tests you have/havenāt completed
- lighting of your journals
- Your stitches and presentation of the project
If most testers donāt have any karma, I still look at the other points
Karma is free to give

Karma will be awarded even after a test is over and a tester finishes late as long as the designer then gifts the pattern through the testing page.
more nitty gritty details if you are interested
Designers have the option to remove a tester rather than gift the pattern to them if it isnāt completed as promised. Some designers are willing to extend time if there is a good reason a tester didnāt finish on time- health or unexpected issues that are communicated to the designer, for example.
Designers can even allow a removed tester back into testing if they removed them on accident (which Iāve done- Iāve removed the wrong tester before and I was able to fix everything), or a tester finally stops ghosting and explains why they dropped off the end of the earth (Iāve restarted others too), so if you havenāt gotten karma for a test you think you should have gotten karma for, contact the designer and things can be fixed.
The easiest way to check if youāve gotten karma for a test is if the tested badge is on the pattern in your pattern list.

If you do not have the tested badge for a test you completed, you did not get Karma for it and your ā% tests completeā score (which you actually canāt see yourself, but designers that you apply to test for can see) will be negatively effected.
You do not need to pay for karma, but you might need to walk new designers through the process to give karma correctly.
Is the pattern still on your tests page and not in with your patterns?
The designer hasnāt gifted you the pattern yet to complete testing.
Make sure you have completed a journal, then contact the designer and request that they gift you the pattern.
Unfortunately, the pattern will stay in your testing page until the designer decides to gift you the pattern to finish the testing process. If a designer never gifts you the pattern, and it stays in your testing area well past the due date, and you have tried to contact the designer with no response, contact Ribblr to help.
Do not āxā out the pattern from your testing area yourself after you finish. The āxā signifies you are aborting the test and will not complete it. You wonāt receive karma, and your % tests complete score will go down. If you accidentally aborted, let the designer know and they can push a button to let you test again and then gift you the pattern on their shop testing page
Is the pattern in with your other patterns, but no tested badge
This has happened to me. It means the designer gifted you the pattern on the pattern menu rather than through their shop testing area. New designers can make this mistake. All Iāve had to do is ask the designer to gift me the pattern from their shop testing area where they assigned testers.
Is the pattern in neither on your testing page nor with your other patterns?
You have been removed from testing, either by the designer, or by aborting yourself by pressing the āxā button by the pattern.
If you couldnāt complete the test, than this is how it should be.
If you completed the test on time, contact the designer and ask them to select retest by your name in their shop testing area and then gift you the pattern once they see your journal. (The designer may need to select retest first, then you resubmit a journal next for the designer to see that you have completed the test in their shop testing area)

Everything the others have said is right. Ultimately, it is up to the designers to choose to gift you the pattern and give you karma. Sometimes designers forget and need a reminder, but sometimes they also donāt want to give someone karma for whatever reason or they have become inactive on ribblr. If you have not been given karma and you have completed the test on time, I suggest reaching out to the designers or, if you donāt get a clear answer, avoid testing for them again. Karma can effect whether or not you are selected for future tests, especially popular ones, so it is important that you get the karma youāre owed.
