For me I always gift my testers the patterns after completion, given they have taken the time to create it and used up their own materials. I thought majority of designers did this but not all do. I in future will state in my tester calls that the pattern will be gifted with completion. Hopefully others will also do this in future with their tester calls as I rarely ever see it included in most  It would be nice if there was maybe a feature added when creating a tester call, the designer selects whether or not it will be gifted after completion. So therefore on tester calls there could be a little icon indicating whether or not you’d be gifted? Which will allow testers to know and also make new designers aware etc. As there are quite a few designers here that do not want to gift the patterns

For me as well, I’ve got about 8 patterns that I tested for that are still just sitting in my test page that were never gifted. The ads said it would be gifted, but I don’t think all designers hit that magic button at the end

I am actually currently about to message people explaining that i finished testing and if it is possible that they could ‘gift and remove’ me as a tester, as my testing section is getting a little cluttered

I guess that comes from people that are just using the testing feature and not really investing in the site maybe? I can’t imagine why you would just walk away like that. OH, but with the new feature, the designers testing tab in the shop manager will also get quite cluttered instead of just a plain list that can be easily ignored… so maybe that will help for anyone that starts using it more than once or twice.

Seriously, from both sides. Not knowing what you’re signing up for is why I avoid many tests and on the other hand not explaining and expecting things the testers don’t know to do. :weary:

Many testers don’t gift the patterns even when asked. Like, they’ll keep us as testers and count this as having gifted the pattern. I asked a few time and was met with a “but I already gave it to you just keep it”

Not to mention a lot of them are not active on Ribblr anymore so they don’t see messages.

if the tester call said they would, then they abandoned the project, or refuse to complete the action, the team should be notified. (end thought)
(new thought) Nobody looks these things up to check for red flags. It’s up to the members to do the minimum to protect themselves. ribblr has very nice tools, but they won’t work if not used.

Goodness I wasn’t attacking anyone.

was that for me? I wasn’t attacking anyone, just saying that it seemingly runs rampant when a lot of them could have been avoided with a little research… sorry I forgot the smiley face that keeps me out of trouble

I am curious about this also. I have completed a couple of patterns earlier than due date and they were gifted. One in particular, the day before the new/added feature. I wonder if that has added to my “karma” points or will/has it accumulate after the release announcement?
Also, will designers, who are selecting testers that sign up or volunteer with visible and accurate karma value/points, will do their diligence to view profiles and/or their makes along with evaluating “karma”? Are designers able to view the date and/or how many karma points other designers or the platform allots when the tester has completed/awarded gift of the test pattern?

Lol, nevermind. I have seen @anon5108995 answer to the quantity question above.

the short and unsatisfying answer is that good testers and good designers will do all those things. The bad will not
Designers do not alot the points as far as I can tell, it’s just a single button.
But yes, when you applied, there was a space for karma points, but as I stated earlier, I think the karma points are kind of meaningless on their own, just one clue and an incentive for testers to complete the tests. But we already have people asking designers to disclose their karma points to each other as if they mean something.

general statement for anyone that needs to hear it:
If you ask me to tell you your karma points, I will remove you
If you have far too many points and I think you have been giving them to each other behind the scenes, you will be rejected for any of my tests (yes, this is already happening)
Calm down and enjoy the craft and stop trying to win a contest that nobody is having.

Glad I saw this. Was not aware of the need to gift and remove the testers! I even asked if there was a page I could see to keep track of who’d finished but they didn’t mention this, would be an easy way to keep track, just gift when they’ve said its done! so three stupid questions I have 1) why wouldn’t designers gift the pattern if the tester already has access to it in the testing tab? And 2) does gift and remove take them out of the group chat? 3) does gift and remove work if you’ve not published the pattern yet?

  1. they change their mind, or abandoned the site, or didn’t want you to have it for free after saying they would (for those that remove and didn’t gift) or… rare but possible, you did the test in a way they did not like and were afraid to say no and just let you do it but then didn’t give you the gift.
  2. I don’t think so, I don’t have much luck trying to use that feature so I can’t tell you for sure,
  3. yes! I have done it, I can confirm that you can gift patterns that are not published, and some new to the platform end up doing that instead of adding as a tester the first time out.

Perfect thanks. I’ll do a little test (boom boom) of 2 in my chat to see what happens.

So I can confirm that after gift & remove they’re still in the chat and have had 1 karma point added (but I had to go out and back in again to see the increment) .

Wow I had no clue this was even going on! now I understand why you said what you said earlier. Some people really are pieces of work, aren’t they?

Already??? It’s been like a week and people already are gaming it. :pensive::unamused:

Thank you for explaining this. Yes I thought that it was an incentive for both parties so that keeps the rapport/relationship and reputation intact and balanced. Indeed, research is an important part of the process.

Replying to your other post:
I did not expect for it to be a contest of sorts or a numbers manipulation game.

Another thought:
Maybe Ribblr can add some type of notification when testers are gifted. Something like “You have completed ‘pattern’ test and have been awarded karma”. I am not sure if this will open the gates of requesting ranking, however.
If Ribblr would be able to gift testers their karma in lieu of the free pattern from designers who have abandoned the project/platform, then the testers can submit their journal and/or other proof after a certain time.
