Hello everyone,
I am trying to pick up knitting, and I am doing a Stockinette square. I don’t know why, but every time I do this stitch/ knit in general, one side always looks like this:
The furthest stitch on the needles always looks weird and I don’t know why or how to fix it. I am a beginner so please, if you know what I’m doing wrong, explain it to me as simply as you can.
Thank you,
Zod/Jay

That stitch always looks like that for me too. Personally I think its bc you switch between knit and purl.
As for the looking like that, its supposed to in stockinette stitch. Garter stitch is where both sides look the same. Also if u do only stockinette stitch then the top and bottom will curl in on itself bc of the way the stitches move.
Hope this helps. ^^
And wow im first! Also it looks great so far

I guess what i mean is the like side? its like doubled over on the needle? Idk why it looks like that and its always awkward to get into. Just making sure were talking abt the same thing. Is that fine?

Ohhhh!! So for me, if the loop is doubled up, its bc you did an extra yarn over and it’ll count as an inc and your piece will keep growing out to the sides. I usually try my best to avoid that extra yarn over and when I get to the stitch to knit it, I drop the loop that isn’t connected to the previous st

Also that loop is usually there whenever you are currently working on the knit side, so that means its associated with purling. Gotta keep an eye out for thay tricky extra yarn over -vO

I don’t know how to increase so I don’t know how I’d accomplish that? How do I fix this?

Basically like I said. When i come to the stitch, I just dropped one of the loops that isn’t connected to anything. It should then fix itself. If not, then idk what’s happening.

drop a loop? when I’m at that stitch do I just turn my work without working into that weird one? I literally only know knit, purl, garter, and Stockinette. I thought if any loop fell off the needle and I didn’t work into it I’d have to restart/ everything would unravel.

Yea, so that weird one (if its what I think it is) isn’t a st at all. Unless u knit or purl into it. It should just be a free loop. Now that I think about, I think its actually worked in when you make the purl row.
If you dont want the weird loop then I think when you make your first purl of the row, make sure that the yarn is NOT somehow in the project, like being around the needle an extra time, or in between stitches
