Lace yarn vs crochet thread

Hello,
What would you say the difference between lace yarn (or any yarn in fact) & crochet thread is?
Are they made differently? Is it the ply?
I’ll look into it myself but thought to ask here as some of you might be using it.
Thanks all

Well, crochet thread is lace! Lace is actually a weight, #0. So it’s like how acrylic is worsted

Yes, looking it up, lace weight yarn is equivalent to thread 10.
But there are even thinner thread. That must be hard to work with!
There are ticker ones too. I wonder if it’s the material that makes people choose thread over yarn when the thickness is similar.
Interesting. I used to knit mostly, then couldn’t do yarn crafts for years due to various disability issues . Only managed to find ways this month & i picked crochet as i only need to hold one hook. Have to relearn everything but I’m so glad.
I made 2 granny squares (in DK acrylic) this month!
Anyway, saw thread was a thing & got curious. Thank you
