Fellow US crocheters, does ANYONE use the damn letters? I always see the letters and never use them. mostly because like most things in the US, it makes no sense. there’s brands of hooks (prym) that will only print the letters if there’s one associated. does the letters make sense to anyone?
I just ignore the letters and use the numbers (mm) ![]()
Same! It makes more sense
I only use the letters if the mm’s have rubbed off from overuse
the letters don’t always line up with the same mm hook - seems to depend on the manufacturer.
When I realized that a 3.25mm and a 3.5mm and a 3.75mm in my stash all had the same letter, but the gauge swatches were totally different sizes… yeah. Figured they’re just a general guide, but not reliable…
MM are the best
I do-
how
Honestly idk man thats just how I always have
Numbers are better for me, i can never remember which letter is which
we have found the unicorn
there’s letters..?
Oh heck nah, only number for me lol
me too! that’s why i use numbers lol
I only use the mm. ![]()
I only ever use MM. I don’t think my hooks even have the letter on them
There was one time at crochet club when one of the ladies asked to borrow a K hook, and I was like, “Um.. so.. I have no idea what a K hook is. Do you know the MM?”
She didn’t knoe the millimeter!!
I learned that most of the older ladies at crochet club only know the letters, not the MM! I still can’t get my head around that
I was taught with the letters in the late 90s bc my hooks only had E/4, I/9, etc on them. They were probably Bates from the 70s lol it wasn’t until 2017ish that I ordered the ergonomic kind and they only had mm so I was forced to switch. Never looked back ![]()
I’ve used both, but I prefer mm. All the patterns I have use mm and not letters.
nope! i use numbers
