Lion Brand has me confused🤔

What does it mean when a yarn weight is divided into “Solids”, “Prints/Mist/Heathers”, and “Twists”? This is my first time seeing this and I can’t find answers ANYWHERE. I checked here, Reddit and tons of crochet/knit/yarn blogs.

I’m not entirely sure that this is true for this specific situation, but variegated yarns usually have less in the skein than solid skeins. This probably means that in a ball of yarn, there is a slightly different amount based on the colors.

So if the skein is a solid color, there is more yarn than a twisted skein.:yellow_heart:

That WOULD make sense! I think I read somewhere in my search that “heathered” yarn can mean variegated? I’m still somewhat new to crochet, so yarn weights and terminology aren’t my strong-suit :smiling_face_with_tear:

Yes it refers to the colour of the yarn. Solids mean the yarn is all one colour.

The other terms refer to mixed colour yarns, which often is included in the name of the yarn/colour but I’ve also had trouble with lionbrand not being clear which type each counts as.

Heathered usually refers to more blended colours, I think mist usually means with flecks of different colours, whereas prints would be blocks of different colours (e.g. 1 metre one colour, then 1 metre in another colour, then another)

No idea, sorry

This sounds just about spot on to what I was finding online, I’m surprised there’s not more information on this unless it’s specific to Lion Brand yarn

I’m surprised there’s no guide anywhere too. I think there’s some variation between brands but they do use similar terms. If you look up something like Caron Simply Soft for example, you might get a clearer picture as they separate out the different styles (e.g. heathers) into different listings.

I will definitely being doing that because this is strangely intriguing to me lol
