Lion mane help

Ok so working on my next ‘kids creation’ which involves a lions mane. I’ve actually never made a lion before so new territory for me. I’m trying to figure out the best way to do the mane.

I’ve done horses and unicorns where the mane and tail are built using chains and SC back up and repeat that process, but I feel like that doesn’t work for a lion. I’ve seen where people just make loops of yarn and attach the loop somehow (my friend did this method so gonna pick her brain later). I’ve also seen people use acrylic and attach it like a tassle (some even brushing it out to make it fluffy).

If you were to be writing up a pattern or making a lion, which way would you do the mane?

I remember I once made a rly cute rainbow and I had no idea how to do the clouds! I figured out something you can do and idk what to call it lol but it worked rly well!
So what I would do is make the head and body without the mane and then go back and do it.
So you basically chain however much you want (chain less for less fluffy and chain more for more fluffy)
And then just slst or sc back in the body.
It just makes loops out of chains and you can make it look rly fluffy by doing a bunch of these and also making a verity of how long they are! I can try to find a photo of the rainbow I made lol

What about you tie some yarn to the area for the mane and then brush it?

Ok since I use big twist posh, I couldn’t brush it and didn’t feel like going to get acrylic. I decided to basically surface crochet some loops in place. I think it worked well! Still need to finish a few components but he’s almost done  here’s a preview
