Losing motivation

Whenever I begin a crochet project and use my Yarn Art Jeans yarn with 3.5 hook and see dome holes i start to lose motivation. There are tiny gaps sometimes between the stitches and it makes me disappointed because it isn’t perfect. Why are there gaps? I’m using the correct hook. I swear my tension isn’t that tight too… I even tried using that ring now and it’s not helping that much at the moment.

When you say “I’m using the correct hook”, do you mean you are using the one that is recommended on the yarn label? Because if so, go smaller than that!

For amigurumis it’s recommended to go half a size or even a full size smaller than the recommended, exactly for that reason - to make sure that the stuffing doesn’t show through between stitches.

For the yarn I usually buy, they recommend 3.5 but I always use 2.5

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I’ll try that. I already beginned something should i frog it?

Yeah, it’s better to frog and start again with the new hook. If you change hooks in the middle of a project it’ll probably end up looking a little funky due to the difference in size (bigger hooks = bigger project)

Yep. My red heart yarn says I, 5.5 mm hook and I actually use a C, 2.75 mm.

I go smaller than the label suggests too. I have this plush yarn that is supposed to be a 6-7 mm, and I’ve been using a 3.25! For my weight 4 acrylic, I also use a 2.25mm. It can be a little tricky, and the yarn tends to slip a bit, but I think it’s worth the nice and tight finish!
Also, try not to get too discouraged! Holes are pretty normal to see in crochet, and they don’t always look as bad as you think.
