Hi every one my name is Colton and i run a small business called cJ and Co Handmade, today I had another great day at the katy farmers market in ontario. This is a six hour market from 7am to 2pm. I made almost six hundred dollars witch is great for this market because I

Congrats on the market - that’s amazing! Your setup looks really nice And everything is displayed clearly! My only suggestion would be to have a table that is facing the front of the tent so that people can see the products more clearly without having to walk in - but other than that I think it looks great!

I love that you used the posts for the tent to hang the snakes, jellyfish and other items. It helps draw attention to your booth. Congratulations on such a successful day, wishing you many more.

A note about PROFIT -

I’ve seen the word “profit” used a lot when it comes to crochet markets etc and I don’t think the term is often understood or used correctly.

PROFIT: is the amount of money you make after you deduct the cost of materials, labour and any other expenses you accrued such as market fees. It is essential when it comes to running a business of any size, that you include a profit component.

For example:

If you sell a loaf cat for $15 and your materials (yarn, safety eyes and stuffing) costs $5 and it took you an hour to make, and you charge $10 per hour for you labour, there is no profit.

If however if you sell the loaf cat for $20 and materials cost $5 and labour cost $10, your total profit is $5.

This is why, when calculating a sell price for your handmade goods, you calculate it as follows:

Sale price = Material costs + Labour costs + Profit.
