Market Diaries: The Pigs & Peaches Chaos

Okay so before I start I just want to introduce what I’m saying here. After each of my markets, I am going to post a “diary” entry. These entries are going to have weird and funny moments that I had from my previous market. I hope you guys enjoy this first diary entry, and enter some weird and funny market moments in the comments.

Now we start…

Dear Diary,

On Friday I started my first two-day market! This market was a little chaotic and rainy but overall it was so fun. Although, some of the weirdest things happened…

:kick_scooter: At the beginning of the market when we were still setting up, A little boy drove by my booth on a scooter. He would drive in front of my booth and kinda just stare at my items. Finally he entered my booth and bought this little otter for 12 dollars. This story will come back later…

:dashing_away: :cloud_with_rain: So unexpectedly during the market it started raining like crazy and the winds were so strong!! Every five minutes or so, half of the items would get knocked over, at one point even the all the key chains (which were on on holder) fell onto the ground:sob::sob: It was a little chaotic, and to top it all off, another vendors tent blew away onto the bounce house:joy: (I felt bad for them because it happened the next day also.)

:musical_note: :musical_notes: The next day at the market was much better, it was beautiful outside but they’re will still some winds. The lady that was in charge/helping at the event did not like me and mom. If you have done a kids market before, you understand that where the market location is, its not usually that good. And of course when we got there we had a spot all the way in the corner along with everyone else. This was a bad spot because the market entry (that was connected to the normal market) was opposite to where we were located! So of course on the second day we asked the lady if we could move closer to the entrance where people actually were. She said no. In fact, whenever we tried to talk to someone else about it, she would come up and rudely interupt the conversation. And of course our booth was right next to ours. Later on we were playing some Christian music in the tent, it wasn’t really loud but loud enough so that when people walked in, it was nice and relaxing. Halfway through the market, the lady (in her kids tent) started blasting music! And this wasn’t Christian or nice and relaxing music, she was blasting cha cha slide, and other songs like that:sob:.

:kiwi_fruit: Later during the market a little boy and his mom came into the tent and picked up a little flip able kiwi. As soon a s he picked it up he started roughly playing with it, I was just standing there praying that he wouldn’t break it but also that he would buy it because… well you know. The mom was like “we’re going to buy this I just have to get my money.” She left an never came back. In fact later I saw he walk right past my booth.

:otter: Remember that otter at the beginning? Well they’re was another crochet booth and the boy that bought the otter, had a sister that was running the other crochet booth. Well later towards the end of the market I turned and saw the otter in one of her display baskets!! I freaked out, was she selling it? I told my siblings to go over and check so they all went over there and asked if she was selling the otter (she probably saw all of my siblings walk from my booth to hers.) She said no, but I still believe she was because later on I didn’t see it there…

:candy: :ear_of_corn: Okay last story. Near the end of a market a young girl stepped into my booth. She looked around but decided she wanted to buy my crochet candy corn. Then her mom walked up and told the girl “we;re not buying that honey.” And as the mom walked away I saw the girl lick the candy corn goodbye!! I was shocked. I put the candy corn up by the way so don’t worry.

The end.

I have had such similar experiences, especially with the terrible booth spot and the parents with “no money” for their kids to buy a thing they’ve already played wih

I’ll share too!

Dear Diary,

:cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: I attend the haymarket in my city which runs between May to October. It was around the end of August and the weather got particularly crazy. That night we had check the forecast and it said a 90% chance of rain around 3pm, so way after our market was over. That morning, after we loaded the car, it seemed too dark and cloudy. We shrugged it off and drove downtown. It started RAINING, obviously , but it was only a little. When we got there, most people were already unpacked and ready to go. Our business is stationary (paper products), custom photo magnets on the spot (which needs electronic devices) and crochet :heart_hands:. So I think you can see where this is going…

:star: Our market neighbors came over and asked, so how are you going to unpack? They are the nicest people btw. We just had to wait it out, and to make matters worse, some people took our spot, so we had to coordinate with the host on where our spot was going to be.

The rain slowly let out, so we snagged the moment to start unpacking. Our tent, out tables, then our products. Luckily nothing got wet, but you could see another cloud blowing towards us.

:cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: It started POURING! People who came were sitting under the edges of buildings not to get wet. People a few stalls down were pushing out the water bubbles in their canopy (iykyk). We put up our walls and secured our sand bags, just so rain wasn’t getting in our stall.

:eleven_o_clock: The rain kept leaving and coming back even stronger. We thought we would have to wait to unpack, just because the rain was so strong, but after 11 am, the rain just disappeared, never to be seen again.

:heavy_dollar_sign:Somehow, in that weather, we made $340 in gross and it was AWESOME! (that week it rained so much, we had record breaking floods and it was all wet everywhere)

the end

sounds fun!! and that little girl prob sold one of your otters…i have never seen anyone lick crochet before, even if it is a candy corn :squinting_face_with_tongue: and at my last market (where it rainied) my keychain holder fell over. not off of the table, but it still fell over. and i do think that it was rude of the lady in charge to do those things. i do remember your music when i went to your last market. it was nice, but not blasted music  at least your tent didn’t blow away either. crochet and wind/rain don’t make a good match.:cloud_with_rain: glad you had a good time tho.

We made sure that our tent would not blow away, we had tent stakes and weights we did not want ours to blow onto the bounce house too :joy: :joy:

I really enjoyed reading about your experience. I can’t believe that kid actually licked your candy corn…yuck.

I’m so sorry you had these experiences happen to you during the market.

I hope the good times outweighed the bad and you made heaps of sales.

I moved this to the crochet space and added some tags for you. :orange_heart::grinning_face:
