GUYS STILL ZERO SALES HERE
I need your honest opinion ! Why do you think my first pattern is not selling ? Is it the design ? Price ? Or both ?
Or is it because it’s my first one ? Help me improve myself pleaaaaase !
The top is very cute, but I believe your cover image doesn’t show it off well!
I would try to take a photo with the top on a person to show off the whole shirt. So a photo not too close to the screen to see the details.
The cover image doesn’t show the full shirt when looking at it as the tab(Ribblr) in front covers part of the bottom.
The second image is a bit too close, so you can’t see much of the bottom.
The white top gives a view of the front, but kind of cuts the top shoulder of the shirt; however gives a clear view of the back
Definitely try taking a photo like the last few! They give a nice view of the top! You can of course, stand a bit closer to the camera for a better view!
Edit: to me, the price is definitely okay
Oh thanks I will definitely change the pictures then ! Thank you so much for the feedback
As for price, quite a few of our young members are not allowed to purchase patterns online, their parents won’t allow them to set up Stripe, they can’t use YouTube etc. so no matter what price you set, there are some members that just can’t buy it
There are a couple of factors at play here: What the other member said: the cover image not showing it well, as well as it seems to me that first patterns as a whole don’t necessarily sell until people have had a chance to try an unpaid pattern - In other words, patterns sell better once they’ve had a chance to try a free pattern so they can see if they like the way you write their patterns and how much detail you put into them. The third reason was also already mentioned, many on this platform just can’t buy patterns because they’re young!
So, that said, I’d just stay patient, make sure your cover image properly shows off the design, and if you can, try creating a pattern that you’d feel comfortable offering for free so people can see how they feel about your design style before purchasing one of your paid designs.
Agreed! The pictures don’t do it justice!
I’d definitely add more pictures!!
These are some things I’ve noted before from others as well as my own personal ways I determine if I buy a pattern or not. It may not necessarily apply to you, but have effected others before
• Cover photo(s): Does it display the item well? Good lighting and background?
• Activity: How active are the designers in the community? Patterns come and go and unless someone goes searching for that item/keyword it won’t be found, if active not only do people have more of a chance of clicking your profile to see if you have a shop, but it shows if the buyer has a question they can message for pattern help
• Journals: Personally if I plan to buy a pattern it’s either because it has good reviews or I’ve made patterns from them before and I trust/like how they write patterns, if there’s no journals I’m more hesitant to buy since there’s no refunds
• Other patterns: Are there other patterns in the shop? Do those patterns have reviews/journals? Is there a free/cheaper pattern for me to try to see if the designer adds photo’s and utilizes the Ribbuild functions well?
• Testing: Did this designer have their pattern tested? While being being tested doesn’t mean it’s 100% mistake free it does mean they’ve had others go over it to remove potential mistakes making it more reliable especially if testers wrote a good review (assuming they weren’t forced to write a positive review as a requirement)
• Price: While everyone can price how they see fit, that doesn’t mean the user base can afford it, this is by no means saying to change the price just insight on why there’s no sales
• Design: Are there similar patterns that may be cheaper? If the product is similar to other patterns the chance of standing out is slim especially if there’s free alternatives to choose from. For example an amigurumi bee why would I buy one for $3 dollars when I can just use a free one that looks the exact same? Unless there’s something unique enough to warrant buying an existing pattern chances are crafters may choose a cheaper version. This is especially true for amigurumi patterns so it may be a harder market to sell patterns for as chances are there’s a cheaper/free one that already exists
• Copyright: Personally I prefer to know the copyright of the makes made by the crafter buying the pattern as I have family and friends that express interest in the items I make and wish to help support the time, effort, and money into the craft and item. Since I live in the U.S, crochet copyright does stay state I can sell the makes, I still prefer to listen to the designers preferences, so if I don’t see it in the intro/can’t sell the items I’m less likely to buy the pattern. Others sell at markets as well so knowing what is and isn’t allowed with a pattern is extremely helpful
• Personal taste: Not everyone likes to craft a certain thing. Many prefer to craft only amigurumi or only garments so even if a crafter comes across your pattern if they aren’t interested in making it they’ll pass it up. For those that do buy patterns would it fit their likes/aesthetic?
• Crafting type: Is it a knit, sewing, tunisian pattern? Many crafters here mostly crochet so they only look for crochet patterns
• Promoting: Did you make a post for the pattern when it was published? If there’s a discount/sale did you make a post? (Just a note Ribblr only allows one self-promo post every 7 days and any other self-promo posts will go under the post for that week), are you promoting your Ribblr shop outside of Ribblr?
These are some things I’ve noticed or others have expressed in the past as well, sorry if some points don’t apply to you! Just thought it would be good to mention them all in case someone else with a similar question comes to see the responses, wishing you luck with your shop
Such a cute top, sadly I don’t make clothes
These are all great points (that I use as well)
For me something else I think about it “can I make/freehand this myself without this pattern/does it look simple enough that I don’t need a pattern”
That’s a good point, definitely will add that to the list in case someone else asks again
I had no idea this is good to know ! Thanks
So it is not that they don’t like your pattern or its price, their parents/guardians are saying they can’t buy it.
Wow thank you for this it’s great
A few people said that, I am new here I hav no idea
This is your sign to start What do you make ?
I will thanks
Thanks I will add some !
hiii! you are gorgeous by the way <3
whenever i post a pattern on ribblr, i always make 2-3 posts: the tester call and the release/tester appreciation
also, ive heard that paid patterns on ribblr can take a while to sell at first, especially if you dont have a following yet!
keep going! the top is adorable and i would totally buy it if i had the spare cash. pacience is key <3
i think for the cover photo you should do it of someone whereing it
