Me reading this right after my yarn sale purchases for my next four projects arrived:

Ok but seriously… ALL the time! Partly because my stash started as “leftovers” from my grandma and anyone who gave me their “scraps”, partly because if I have a big project I’ll buy the yarn for it then, and add the leftovers to my stash 
And then I try to use the yarn I have and it just doesn’t work
Hahaha, this is my go to whenever my husband says “why don’t you use the yarn you already have?”
I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes the yarn picks the pattern! 
So very true. My husban keeps asking if I really need more yarn. I just ask him if he really needs more dice.
What does he do with dice? I’m not familiar.
He plays Dungeons and Dragons.
Of course none of them work! Every project needs specific yarn that you don’t have
