So November starts this week, and so does a bunch of different writing challenges. I was wondering if you guys were participating in any challenges this month, and if so, maybe we can share our goals and cheer each other on!
(Also I know there’s been some controversy with NaNoWriMo this year, so I’ve been trying to find some alternatives to it - if anyone is doing a different challenge or using a different website I’d love to know!)
I’ll share my writing goals for November:
write a small poem every day
write a 30,000 word rough draft of a novel
I might not reach my novel word count bc I’m also trying to write/test some crochet patterns, but hey - any amount of progress is better than none lol
So cool!
I actually haven’t heard of the controversy with NNWM… could you explain? Whatever it is, I think I’m still going to participate in it, just because it’s so fun and I really enjoy using Nanowrimo :)
My goal is to finish a novel/story in a month!
to sum it up, NNWM released a statement stating they didn’t condone the use of generative AI in the challenge, and essentially called ppl “classist & ableist” for opposing the use of AI (which upset a lot of staff & participants, I’ve seen a lot of posts of ppl looking for alternative challenges)
I might still use NNWM bc I’ve wanted to participate for years and I’ve heard good things about their writing system, but I was curious if there were other challenges that ppl were participating in!
I’m competing in nanowrimos young writers program
I think that nanowrimo does the right yhing i think that it’s downright cheating to use Ai while writing a story
Whenever you’re done with that novel i’d love to read it, just to give you an opinion and look for spelling errors and that stuff. I’m usually very good at spelling! DM me if you’re interested.
i’m doing “nanowrimo” this year too! gonna try to write at least 30k. hopefully more. didn’t know about them being in hot water until just now but it does kinda suck that they promote AI. and the uhh … allegations … are rough to say the least
my favorite part abt it was the ability to track ur word count as you wrote (aka write within the website) so i’m gonna use reedsy instead. its preeetty similar to the ywp layout in that regard :3
best of luck to u and everyone else participating here!!!
Reedsy is new to me! I like that they have weekly writing prompts and contests, I’ll have to check them out sometime
good luck with your 30K+ writing challenge!
